There are a lot of people who take drugs who do not suffer from the disease of addiction. People really need to learn how complicated that is.

This is very sad news. I was always hopeful she would make a comeback. Having seen her 11 times in concert starting when her debut album came out, she truly had one of the greatest voices of all times.

Wow, today is Brandy's birthday! She and Whitney starred in Cinderella together in 1997 & I was just listening to the soundtrack earlier today! Ironic. I dont know what possessed me to listen to the soundtrack today. I didn't even know it was Brandy's birthday. Then 30 mins after I was done, they announced Whitney's death.

When I was younger, I thought she was brilliant as the Fairy Godmother in the 1997 televison production of 'Cinderella'. She was amazing in 'The Preacher's Wife'. It really is a sad loss.

Yeah Marc posted that to FB and I just sat here listening to it. Beautiful and chilling. It was my favorite tune of hers. Hurts to know we will never hear it live anymore.

I am her age, and my voice isnt what it used to be. Her mother, the great Cissy Houston, didnt have the voice she once had when she was 50.
I'm not saying her lifestyle didnt play a big part in that beautiful instrument falling into ruin, and I wish lessons are learned from that, but I hope that Whitney is more remembered by "The Greatest Love".

Doodle, I never fully believe the age excuse. It reminds me of--speaking of Houston's family members--Dionne Warwick who is a proud smoker (which I can't fault since I smoke too though more a pack a week than her three packs a day) and has said recently how she would quit smoking if she thought for one second it had affected her voice. Well apparently she hasn't compared anything she's recorded from the past 20 even 30 years to how gloriously controlled and versatile her voice was in the 1960s.
Or Aretha Franklin where I think some of it is a health issue. Sure you lose some of your voice, but anyone who's heard Donna Summer live in the past few years--a woman in her mid 60s who did have a brief famous drug problem at the end of the disco era but nothing like Houston--and who still sounds unbelievable live. She doesn't quite have the high range she once did but otherwise the changes are undetectable. Or look at Barbara Cook. I mean obviously part of this is they probably lucked out with genes, etc, but...

Neither Dione or Aretha have the voices they did when they were 20, 30, ,40 etc. that's nature. Those two and many others have adapted, some beautifully, so they can produce their hits. It's their job and bread and butter. Whitney's voice was in disrepair for other reasons, no question, i didnt imply anything different.
I remember when "Freeway of Love" came out that Aretha's voice wasnt the same.

Seriously! Whitney's family and Brandy's family are still VERY close! There are even reports stating that Brandy's brother, Ray J, was the one that found Whitney dead, but it hasn't been confirmed or denied.

Ha well I respectfully agree with you--sorry for the threadjack. But I do think in the case of Whitney when people have said it's purely natural and age (which you did NOT say but I've heard many do) I don't think age was anything but perhaps a small tiny factor. I saw her last tour, and while I'm really glad I had the op[portunity to finally see her live, it was a bit like when I saw Liza a few years back--I'm grateful for the experience and glad I went but it was also a bit disheartening, albeit not unexpected in iether case. I guess the Donna Summers and Barbara Cooks who sound pretty much how they always did are rare though. (And I do think Dionne's smoking so heavily has been a factor with her voice as has Aretha's weight particularly when it comes to inability to hold the notes the way they once were able).

Ray-J showed up after she was found and apparently was screaming in the hallway that he needed to get his 'fcuking' clothes out of the room.

As someone who works in production design I was wondering if they'd pull together a tribute. Honestly though how could they not? Does anyone know if she finished filming her movie with Jordin Sparks or were they still in the process?
