I'm hearing reports that she died in the hotel room bathtub.
The speculation is that she may have been slightly intoxicated (at most) and got into a nice warm bath ... and fell asleep.
This is actually a big no-no, if it's true. A friend of mine had an older brother who had a few beers, got into a hot tub at a party and drifted off to sleep. He drowned.
The combination of hot soothing water and even just a little inebriation can be deadly.
I wonder if this information and that theory will play out. We shall see.

One of the news agencies said that there were parallels between her and Judy Garland. I agree. I think the years of her lifestyle caught up with her and she simply wore out. Her appearance onstage the other night shows her tired and bloated, even though she sang well. I'm hoping she naturally passed instead of what the alternative could be.

Funny, I was thinking of Judy this morning - especially with some of the snark on this board re: addiction. Addiction knows no age or sex, race or religion, wealth or poverty. It is truly an equal opportunity disease. I have had friends who have come back from it, and others, not so much.
Whatever happened, I hope she was and is at peace.

Was just thinking that this reminds me of the day MJ passed. Farrah passed earlier but the big news was his death. Tonight was to be about Adele's return to singing but that now seems to have taken a backseat. Just my random thoughts.

I remember a little over ten years ago, Aretha had a concert where she quietly said to the audience, "Pray for Whitney, y'all." Something tells me this was a loooong time coming.
She did a few concerts in Austrailia, I believe, about two years ago. The footage was staggering. Trainwreck doesn't even cover it. This wasn't a worn, aged voice...it wasn't really a singing voice anymore, period. So sad.
I was never a fan, but this is still pretty shocking news. She just seemed so...tough.

And the mind boggles that anyone could compare someone's Grammy win (which is arguably even more of a token prize than the Golden Globes, based on sales) with the death of someone...

Did you guys hear what Karl Lagerfeld said about Adele? That she's "a pretty girl, but she needs to lose some weight." WTF does how much she weighs have to do with singing? She's not a runway model for craps sake.

I'm cringing a bit on the side of Devil's advocacy as I type this but there is some belief that weight loss does in fact, affect the way you sing. This argument has been floating around the opera world for years, most recently regarding Deborah Voigt and her singing in the Met's new Ring cycle. They said the same for Pavarotti after his weight loss. He packed it back on but still never captured his old magic or his abilities to hit those high C's quite so well.
I think it's due to stress and aging quite honestly. In Adele's case it was nothing more than a throat problem. Hopefully the surgery has helped her. And Lagerfeld is a horses' ass. What does a clothing lizard know about professional singing?

Stockard's point was that being overweight (whether you agree she is or not) has nothing to do with her singing.
It is true that sudden weight loss might negatively affect a voice. But Stock was making an unrelated point.

Yes. This is what Kathleen Turners publicist was saying last night after the show.
Whitney was seen wandering the lobby during the day and doing handstands by the pool. She showed up to a rehearsal the night before, "dripping with sweat, bloated and reeking of cigarettes and alcohol".
It's just sad that none of her people could help her...

Well sadly I think that she became a "yes" sort of celebrity. People were afraid to tell her no even when it came to her addictions and drug use in fear of being fired.

Strange, but the first thing I thought of was all the mystery surrounding Marilyn Monroe and the theory that she died almost a day earlier and her body was moved and "arranged" in her own bed by members of the Kennedy/Lawford families. That will never be proven (or dismissed, for that matter). It's been too long, and people acted too quickly on the autopsy, etc. Plus no cell phone cameras and Internet videos.
This is shaping up to be in the headlines for weeks.

Also, given that Keith Richards already has 20 years on Whitney, I'm not sure what her point is there. But however he eventually dies--assuming he's not hit by a bus--yeah, the reports are going to mention his drug use.

The statistics don't remain the same in the face of other risk factors. Is it possible that Whiteny dropped dead at 48 of a cause unrelated to her self-admitted drug addictions? I guess.
