I took my mom to see the movie, and every time there was a reference to something even remotely obscene, she'd say, "Oy vey," as a typical Jewish mother would do. She liked the music, as I had been playing the OBCR in the car for a while leading up to her seeing the movie, but she couldn't get into it. She likes shows with more dancing and action. Well, we're seeing the show in March, so maybe she'll at least like the stage production.
My mom is in LOVE with the Rent movie soundtrack. Every time we go somewhere in her car, she's like "Did you bring MY cd?" (it's definitely NOT her cd, by the way). My dad, however, has a very low tolerance for it, not because he is against what it stands for or anything, but just because he is very narrow-minded in terms of music. He is pretty much into classic rock ONLY.
My mom has seen the show on B'way 3 times and she really liked the movie. She even has Anthony and Adam's solo albums on her ipod too. It's kind of cute.
I've also dragged her around with me to places like Broadway on Broadway, the BC/EFA Flea Market, and she has even endured the Wicked stage door. Twice.
She's a good sport

My family isn't all that into theatre. Except really my mom and my cousin. (I would say my aunt too, but she has really bad taste in musicals and says Rent is less groundbreaking than Oklahoma.) Anyway. My mom and I usually agree when it comes to musicals.
Basically, if my dad could arrange to never hear ANY music other than Pink Floyd for the rest of his life, he'd be happy. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Pink Floyd, but... I just wish he would give some other stuff a chance--especially BROADWAY stuff.
Shiksa, except for the race issues, that's bascially my dad. Me wanting to watch Queer Eye on TV starts this enormous argument about how "we don't support that behavior in our household" and ends with my getting slapped across the face for sassing him. Don't get me started on his opinions of Planned Parenthood. He knows little-to-nothing about Rent and I'd like to keep it that way.
I like country music.
*crickets chirping*
I like country music, too, skittles. No worries. I grew up listening to it. Some of the newer stuff, though, is too much like pop music.

secondstar, I tend to like a lot of the pop country music. More traditional or bluegrass type stuff tends to give me migraines.
My parents listen to talk radio or contemporary Christian music. They're such cliches- my dad even listens to Rush Limbaugh on his lunch break. They used to like good music; I grew up listening to all their old records. Somehow they just got really boring along the way.
Katt, my mom said that Rent has beautiful music a few months ago. It shocked the hell out of me. She saw Rent with me last spring and didn't say anything about the show AT ALL until I was watching the movie cast on The View.

I'm back, I'm clean, and I'm eating. Happy times.
I'm really sorry I've been so hot/cold lately. I have a lot on my mind and it's starting to get to me. That's no excuse for me being such a jerk, though. I really am sorry.
Anyway. My favorite bands...wow. The Ramones, The Strokes, The Sex Pistols, The Beatles, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Easyworld, The Libertines, The Pixies, U2, Kings of Leon, The Stones, The Decemberists, Art Brut, The Killers, The Clash, Feeder, The Datsuns, Super Furry Animals, to name a few. Then there's Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin, Garth Brooks, Kenny Chesney, Harry Connick Jr., Lou Reed, Tim McGraw, Ben Kweller, Hendrix, John Lennon, Gram Parsons, Charlie Daniels, etc.
I like music
Oh, I am definitely not into bluegrass by any means... I just meant that I miss some of the music that I listened to as a kid. Singers like Garth Brooks, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, etc... I LOATHE some of the newer singers, like Gretchen Wilson.

I honestly hate country. I think I hate it even more than rap and emo. Ugh.
I listen to classic rock, jazz, blues, insrumental (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, etc.) and, of course, Broadway tunes!
I listen to country, cast recordings, The Ramones, Elton John and Billy Joel. I'm in a musical rut. I blame the state of music these days; it's too hard to wade through all the crap out there to find any of the good stuff.
