It's really a good book. It's the 2nd time I'm reading it. Haha.
I recently finished:
THE KITE RUNNER
THE EMPEROR'S CHILDREN
THE NANNY DIARIES.
I loved the first 2, liked the 3rd.
I am currently reading THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES which, so far, is terrific.
The Secret Life of Bees is really fantastic. I read it about two years ago and could not put it down.
I have The Kite Runner sitting on my shelf, waiting to be read. All of the posts about it on this thread make me want to pick it up and start it NOW.
Currently however, I am reading Edward Rutherford's The Princes of Ireland. It's a little dry and it's taking me a lot of time to get into.
I am eight pages into comedian Bob Smith's first novel, Selfish & Perverse, and I hope that these laughs continue!
I just finished Wicked, which I enjoyed and recommend. Note: it is very different from the play, and definitely not for kids.
I just started a book called The 13th Apostle, which seems to be a religious thriller a la Angels & Demons.

Last week I read:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (again... and again...)
Sex Drugs and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman (it was all right, a bit self indulgent)
Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut
This weekend I finally finished Invention of the Human by Harold Bloom and now I'm going to read Ian McEwan's Atonement, although I started The Elephant Vanishes by Haruki Murakami. I'll finish that afterwards. I think I might take a break and read Macbeth first.
Changing Planes by Ursula K. LeGuin
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
and when driving, listening to
Wicked, by Gregory Maguire

Just finished THE NINE by Jeffrey Toobin (about the Supreme Court), KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL by Anthony Bourdain and SERVICE INCLUDED by Phoebe Damrosch (a behind the scenes memoir of the 4-star restaurant Per Se). Just started WHEN BLANCHE MET BRANDO by Sam Staggs (tracing the history of the writing and production of the many stage and film versions of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE). I may read THE BRIEF AND WONDROUS LIFE OF OSCAR WAO by Junot Diaz next (I never read fiction but the rave reviews were very persuasive).
I'm actually in the middle of reading Diaz's new novel and it's quite good so far. You might get a little lost if you're not familiar with some Spanish slang, but it is engaging nonetheless. The narrative is quite interesting as it moves between characters and time periods, especially during the height of Trujillo's reign.

Loving Frank (about Frank Lloyd Wright and his mistress/muse Mamah Cheney) by Nancy Horan.
(This thread always gives me hope for this board.)
I'm just starting Atonement. For what it's worth, I quite liked the first chapter!
The Icebound Land by John Flanagan (3rd Ranger's Apprentice book)
I got halfway through it just yesterday afternoon.
Kite Runner: heartbreaking

i'm reading Sophie Tucker's autobiography & i love her more with every sentence!
The Nanny Diaries.
I started reading it on my L commute today. So far, so good.
Nanny Diaries is fun - much better than the movie.
I am currently reading Cymbeline, Pygmalion and Rock 'n Roll. And I have tickets to the first two. Loved Utopia, but I am not sure I want to see RnR. Just too obscure for me.
Justagirl, we should start a two person thread about Atonement :P
Ariella, I recently finished Middlesex. Jeff Eugenides is just such an astounding author.
I just finished reading "Skinny Bitch", and am now am terrified to eat meat. I just got back from my first ever trip to Whole Foods as a result. I bought all sorts of organic whatnot, including a frozen chicken fettucini alfredo (it's vegan and has semolina pasta).
I'll probably regret this shopping spree in a couple of days when the food tastes like wallpaper and I'm craving Burger King.
