"In his own image" means to his own design, or as his masterwork, not "to look like me." The ancient Hebrews were pretty explicit about old YHWH being something of what we'd call an Eldritch Abomination today, and his angels even more so.

I'm watching the Ten Commandments right now and when Moses came down from the first time seeing God, he said that God wasn't a man, but a spirit.

If we go by the location and time in which the events took place, Jesus was most likely darker skinned, had brown eyes and dark skinned. If we are going by what white Christians have made him look like, he had light skin, long blonde hair and bright blue eyes. He had perfect skin and was probably above average height, around 6'.

I watched the Ten Commandments last night and I think that John Derek looks like God.
And Anne Baxter, Yvonne De Carlo and Nina Foch could have done a terrific production of Follies-in-Togas. Not to mention (not-yet) Dame Judith Anderson.

I needed a little 10 Commandments over on ABC for a palate cleanser before Wolf Hall. I caught the glorious moment when Yul Brenner's kid exclaimed, "He turned his staff into a cobra!". He was talking about Chuck Heston not Yul.

But seriously, I don't even get Jane2's question. Why can't the quote mean that God created men to look like God? God looked this way before there were men; and then God created mortals who looked like God.... mind you, I am not a bleiever, but that's clearly what the quote means, no?
Jane2, did you think "His" in the quote referred to men's image rather than God's?

If God looked the way man looks (which would have to be, if he created them in his own image) then who created God and decided how he'd look?

I agree, JG. But those are the things I think about. Like, how did everything begin? You know, the stuff Stephen Hawking explains. I still question it though.
