Jane2, I enjoy thinking about things like that, as well. The expanse of space always gets me, as well as the egocentric idea that we have the only planet with life or that we are the superior species in all of that space. My mind usually has to change the subject before I get a migraine. Oh, to have greater intellect.

Now I must return to supervising finger painting.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

JG, I don't think our questions are answerable, whatever the intellect. Solutions can only be conjecture, since it all happened too long ago for any recorded history. The most we can do is come to logical conclusions based on what we do know. That being said, I'm constantly frustrated when wondering about this topic, as there are no real answers. It could be because I'm a Virgo, and we have to analyze everything and know all the answers!

And, of course, now you are asking the real question!

Here's another question:

If Mary were only the vessel, so that Jesus wasn't genetically hers, why would she have needed to be born without sin? Does that mean that original sin - which Mary was spared vis a vis her being Immaculately Conceived (a phrase often misinterpreted to mean the Virgin Birth when the two concepts are completely different and apply to two different beings, Mary and Jesus) - passed down congenitally rather than genetically?

Ah, the old Clean Womb Dirty Manger combo. In any event, that would mean that sin is passed congenitally rather than genetically. Or perhaps congenitally as well as genetically; either or.

I don't think anyone disagrees that some guys wrote it.

The question is whether those guys were reliably in touch with divine and literal truths. I don't think they were. (And not just because those guys, who may have included the occasional woman, at least in the non-canonical texts, contradicted each other.)

Others take it all as, ahem, "gospel."
