I am eating pickles and I thought huh... I have no idea what food group they belong in? Anyone know?

Yeah, they're vegetables...and if you're wondering what kind, they're cucumbers. Of course a lot has been done to change their wholesome cucumberness, but that's why they're veggies.
This past thread may be of some assistance:

Actually I believe a cucumber is classified as a fruit. It is a riped ova from a flowering plant that contains seeds. Tomatos, pumpkins, squashes are all fruits.
Actually, I think because it's basically been stripped of most of its nutritional value via curing, soaking, etc., and is used primarily to accent or spice something else up... it's a condiment.
Many condiments are made up of fruits or veggies and other ingredients that have been "treated" to be something else.
It's like saying salsa is a fruit or a veggie... or ketchup... or sauerkraut.

Fabrizio2--Oh, yes, my apologies!
Pickles and Sauerkraut are both veggies not condiments.
Very little but salt and vinegar are added to cure them, so the nutritional value is still intact. (Cucumbers don't have much to offer, except crunch and few calories, but Sauerkraut is actually really good for you--sailors used it for centuries to prevent scurvy and other disorders.)

Condiment is not a food group. The food groups are:
grains, vegetables & fruits, fats and oils, milk and dairy products, meat, beans, fish, and nuts
Pickles are preserved cucumbers and so fall into the Fruit/Vegetable category. They are high in sodium, but are pretty OK other than that. Most pickles are made by making a brine and preserving the cucumbers in that, with the addition of (sometimes) Sugars, acids and other flavoring agents. You can also pickle some fruits (tomatoes, watermelon rind) but those are usually specified in the name: "Watermelon Pickles" or Pickled Okra for example.
Saurkraut is even simpler to make: Simply shread cabbage and layer it in a cool place with Salt. The cabbage feremnts and becomes Sauerkraut. It can then be canned or refrigerated and stored for a long time.

Is there actually a such thing as pickled eggs? Or am I thinking of deviled eggs?
There are both pickled and deviled eggs.
Pickled are stored in a brine; deviled are cooked, the yolk than whipped with mayo and/or other things and put back in the cooked whites.
Now I'm in the mood for a pickle! I'm glad to hear that what little nutritional value cucumbers have, is still intact. The thing that's not healthy for some would be the high sodium content-known to be bad for high blood pressure. As an aside, I knew a girl who, whenever she wanted to lose weight, only ate pickles and meat. Strange.

Oh how I miss our garden. Fresh cucumbers picked off the plant, it's spines washed off under a garden hose. Nice crunch to em!
Okay, so what about ketchup/catsup?

A condiment, but also a fruit (tomato). There's a good deal of sugar in Katsup too, along with some vinagar and some seasoings.
