Maybe because I'm already deeply into caroling rehearsals, the first one that comes to mind is the wonderful Miracle on 34th Street with baby Natalie Wood.

SLAVES of NEW YORK, produced by Merchant/Ivory, based on the book by Tama Janowitz, starring a plethora of NY talent including Bernadette Peters, Stanley Tucci, Mercedes Ruehl, MaryBeth Hurt among others. It's a funky, post-modern love letter to the NYC art scene. I am so in love with this movie and Bernadette's moving performance.

I liked the book, but I don't think the movie lived up to the greatness of the book. Janowitz is quirky and that style wasn't captured in the movie.

It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story...

This isn't a movie, but "Ugly Betty" does it for me.
I love the stylized look of her Queens home and the tacky NYC office. It is such a twist on the typical approach to showing off the city.

and me! But I agree, the film wasn't nearly as good as the book.

I don't know if it's my favorite, but all I can really think of right now is The Devil Wears Prada, it had some great shots of Midtown.
