What would happen if every Gay person stopped paying their taxes?

I've been saying that for years. We're not good enough to be covered under federal laws but our money is good enough to be taxed??
The sting really takes its toll when my husband and I do our taxes every year; we see the money we COULD and SHOULD be getting back but don't because we're not recognized on the federal level. It's infuriating!!

I think there are groups out there organized around this notion, Huss. I don't know anything about them other than that they exist.
I haven't given this a lot of thought, but I tend to lean away from this idea. I know it's not the same. But I don't agree when religious people say they shouldn't have to pay taxes if the money goes to things like abortion, etc. I pay taxes even though it goes to things I disagree with, like war.
I think taxes are what they are. We all have to pay them and the details will never suit everyone. But that's the process.
Nobody's interests are fully represented and someone always feel like they're paying for something they don't agree with.
That's my general feeling. But I'm open to being convinced otherwise.

Well an example is something like the Inheritance tax. If you are the "spouse" most of the time you don't pay taxes but being someones partner you would have to pay.
I heard of one gay couple that were together for 20 years. When one partner passed the other could not afford to pay the taxes without selling the house. These are the issues that need to be addressed.
We can all make jokes and yours was a really good one Wexy but something does need to be done on a national level. Just trying to figure out the best way.

I have said that EVERYONE should stop paying taxes, if they aren't happy with the way the government is being run. And I always get people looking at me like I'm crazy.
I would love to see what the IRS would do if a huge portion of the population just said UP YOURS!
We just finished the taxes for last year and we have to, in total, fill out our taxes 8 times between the state and Federal. It's a giant pain in the ass and we still don't get the same deductions as a straight married couple.

Posted: 3/29/13 at 9:17amWay back when, around the time of the invention of dirt, you could actually say where you wanted your taxes to go. Seriously. Then Washington realized no one wanted to fund their little fantasy war games and stopped the option.

Because taxes are not something you vote on. Elected officials are. This is something that is taught, I believe, in the third or fourth grade.
Perhaps instead of posting pointless, "slacktivist" questions on the Internet, you might consider getting involved in advocacy work with groups that have been working for years to make this happen. I would start with Evan Wolfson's Freedom to Marry. You'll find information there about your tax penalties and rights and what's being done about them.
Freedom to Marry is the campaign to win marriage nationwide
