Posted: 7/5/05 at 6:41pmDollyPop.I think you have sunken to an all time low. I am very hurt at what you just posted about how if I would hold it in more often I would be trimmer. I have morbid obesity . Does the term morbid mean anything to you ? I feel very hurt at your remark. And you know what is worse? I really don't think mean it because you are not a mean person. You just have the need to treat people like that. If you have something to say to me or about me.........please say it to my face. This is ridiculous.

The lack of consideration for others & sometimes outright vicious attacks on this board are one of the many reasons I seldom visit here. Many of the posters are beyond juvenile in their name-calling & insults, they're downright infantile. Take away their "right" to be rude to others & they cry like two year olds.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 7:20pmYenta, I can see how that would sting, but to be fair, I think DollyPop was making a pun, and not slighting your actual figure. (You know, holding in your emotions...holding in your girth...) It wasn't a commentary about your physique, I don't think.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 7:28pmYou're missing the point entirely, type a tiff. Dollypop was making a mean joke at someone else's expense, and disregarding her feelings to boot. The fact that Yenta is morbidly ill is almost beside the point, it just accentuates how cruel people can be. Dollypop is harrassing someone trying to have an honest discussion just because he/she can. It's unkind, and unnecessary.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 7:34pmDollypop, I usually gloss over your idiocy, but that was quite possibly the cruelest thing I've read on this board. And that is saying a hell of a lot.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 7:38pmI might be confused here. From what I understand, DP and Yenta are pretty good friends. I don't think DP would deliberately try to harrass her or be cruel. He was making a pun, and addressed it to Yenta because she's the one who started with the "holding it in" bit. What this DOES prove, since I'm giving DP the benefit of the doubt here, is that words really can be misconstrued, and it just goes to show that sometimes teasing on the board can go too far. Too bad feelings had to be hurt in this very thread for the point to be made.

Teasing on an anti teasing thread? Good grief. . .
I thought that Dollypop's comment was in the spirit in which Yenta took it as well, but I think he deserves a chance to explain himself. It may just be a misunderstanding as Tiff said.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 7:59pmI'm sorry if I misunderstood the point, Yenta, as GL2 said. I'm no skinny creature myself, and I'd be crushed if someone meant that comment in the way you think it was.

I don't know if it stems from personal experiences, but I think, in some cases, people feel the anonymity of the board gives them license to be a$$holes.
I dont have the patience to read the whole thread so I'm just going to respond to this point here.....
While that's true for some people, it's not for others. That's true for the cowards... it has been my experience though, that all the people I have met from the board are the same ON the board as they are OFF the board.
Me, yeah, I'm definitely the same on and off.... I even type the way I talk. I'm very sarcastic, very tongue in cheek and incredibly blunt. I call a spade a spade. Yeah, I'm a b!tch.... but what you see is what you get baby. I dont hide behind any online persona; I've never felt the need to.
Life is full of unpleasant experiences.... if there are people out there who are REALLY going to get upset by something said on a message board, I think they need a major reality check.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 8:35pmWhy all this "blame the victim" talk? What gives people a license to be assholes?

I never said I couldn't stand your guts. That was jrb_actor. I loved your posts. It's given me the biggest laughs I've had all day! (Not enough for me to call my friends over to read them though. But that's not any of your business.)
And really, this isn't the time or thread for you to drag your vile here, when there's already hurt feelings and serious conversations going on.

Wow, CJR, you don't even have the patience to read three whole pages? And yet you have an opinion on this? Just because life is full of unpleasant experiences doesn't mean we should to put up with it online. Or, what's worse, condoning, as you seem to, said bad behavior.
You're a b!tch, eh? Hard to imagine someone so proud of that. Just as hard as it is to imagine someone defending discourtesy.

In all fairness, she gave her opinion on one particular statement, not the thread as a whole.

Posted: 7/5/05 at 8:51pmCJR, for all your self-professed bitchiness, I've seen you make plenty of positive contributions to the board, too. You're not, in my opinion, a bully. I'm not saying that everyone should create an atmosphere of artificial, treacly sweetness. Just...well, read the subject line.

Yeah, that's a bit of a reach there, nmartin.
And to clarify another point, like Plum, I've always found CJR to be a pretty civil person who probably wouldn't have posted what she did if she'd read the whole thread.
