Where's the DIVERSITY in TV this year?

I remember most recently viewers were up-in-arms about how we saw nothing but beautiful white actors grace all of our main network prime time shows. With the exception of maybe Elementary and Scandal, most still showcase only white actors. Do you think it is time for even more diversity on television or is it just fine the way it is?

But, seriously, look at the BWW article about theater actors making it in TV...all white!

Are you talking about just new shows or just in general? And are you just including network tv and not counting things like Netflix series? Just asking because Grey's Anatomy is pretty diverse in ethnicity. And you have Orange is the New Black on Netflix.

Fox currently has a show called Glee that has a kid in a wheelchair, a Downs Syndrome cheerleader, a black crossdresser, and a gay marriage proposal. Maybe you aren't watching the right channels.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Lucky 7 has a very diverse cast.

Brooklyn Nine Nine has a black police chief who also is gay.

The Mindy Project has a non-white title character.

Ming-Na Wen is a lead on Agents of Shield.

Chicago Fire has several non-white major characters.

Blair Underwood is the title character of Ironside.

The CW does a decent job with diversity in general.

The majority of actors are white, but it's not like there are NO minorities on network tv.

also, Orphan Black, Homeland, Boardwalk Empire, The Bridge, Grimm, Once Upon a Time, CSI, NCSI, L&O SVU all have main characters of color

maybe Jovie only gets one channel, or doesnt have a color tv.

Michael J Fox has a black boss/friend.

Don Cheadle is in an HBO show -- whose name escapes me (As far as I know it's still running)

Newsroom has a a person of Indian desceent.

Then of course, there was MIss America -- and we saw how wonderfully that went over with large secitons of the country.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Two Broke Girls has both an Asian and an black man (Garret Morris, whom I thought was dead.)

The new Tony Shaloub show has two out of four leads as a person of color.

The Mindy Project.

Diversity is there, who can ever say, however, if its "enough".

The Good Wife has a character of Indian descent, seeing as we're making a list.

Downton Abbey is soon to have its first black character too, I believe.

I kinda sorta think the marketplace has some say in it. I don't recall the broadcasters or cable programmers offering shows with such diverse casts before. What I'm not going to do though is attempt to determine who goes into which bucket because lines can become blurry. Not everyone who's an ethnic minority likes being sorted along a convenient line or is comfortable with the defaults.

The way that 2 BROKE GIRLS and DADS as well actually use their diversity might be considered a demerit in this consideration overall...

Trophy Wife can be added to the list, too.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

Royal Pains has an Indian actress. True Blood has two black main characters, Tara and Lafayette. Under the Dome has two black characters and a Latina. And isn't there a new sitcom about a black family in the White House?

Is it enough, as someone else asked? probably not. But it's moving in the right direction.

sure Javaro, counting how many blacks, hispanics, Asians, Eskimos, Indians, Gays, Straights, Bis, TGRs etc. are on each show, how many lines they get is just ridiculous. where does it end?

should i be protesting because Keri Russell is playing a Russian on The Americans? Mila Kunis or Milla Jovovich or Olga Kurlyenko arent good enough? of course not its ridiculous. This isnt 1950.
