Hi Brd - I make great homemade pies and rhubarb pie is one of my favorites. I usually mix it with strawberries but I like it plain also. However, homemade pie is one of my greatest downfalls..I just can't stop eating it..therefore I don't make it as often as I used to. We did just have strawberry shortcake with the leftover strawberries that I saved from making the freezer jam. It was good and I am full now!

We are having lamb chops tonight - one of my favorites.
I guessed that you would be a pie expert.
Mrs. Brd was taught well my her mother. They make great mini mince pies for the holidays.

My mother was also a great pie maker but she died of lung cancer before I was interested to learn. I sort of taught myself by trial and error over the years. The secret is in the crust. I am amazed at how many people have not idea how to make a homemade pie. It is almost a lost art.

You are correct about the crust. My mother and mother in law are experts. I can cook and bake, but to not do pies.

Hi Shira - Yes, how was the opera singing?
Brd - I was almost 17 and she was 42 I think. Too young and that's why I have never smoked.

The music afternoon was better than I expected. I've been inspired to take voice lessons again just for fun!

Good for you Shira. My daughters are all great singers and it gives me great enjoyment to hear them sing. Regretfully they do not do it often enough anymore. Oh and I should not forget my sons...one sings with a band and the other used to do a lot of musical theater but not much anymore.

I sing a few Sundays a month, it has been the greatest experience. I did not perform for about 15 years. My voice has also matured. I do not have the sky range that I had as a kid. I wish that my kids would sing in public, they have great voices, but are too shy. Addict, I kill my mother with a nice Ave Maria!

I don't care to be "great" - I would just like more control over my vocal cords.

My oldest daughter has sung Ave Maria many times on various occasions. I also love to sing but not very well.

The cruise last night was a lot of fun. We had beautiful weather, the drag show was actually very, very fun, and I was with a great group of people. I did drink a bit too much, which didn't really help me get over this cold...
The parade today was fun. It really is a lot of fun actually being in the parade. Was extremely tired afterwards though - still blaming this cold - so napped and just went to dinner. I think I'll take it easy tonight and try to kick this cold once and for all.

Just popping in to say hello to all (WB included).
Did a bit of house hunting today - it seems that the SoCal market is softening - which means I will get less for my condo, but can perhaps buy a little more house.
It was a beautiful day here today in SoCal.
Shira, let me know about the 4th - you have an open invitation to a wee bit of Americana right in the middle of LA.

Well, get in touch with me before and i will give you directions.
It will be about 100-150 people eating hotdogs line dancing, playing ping pong, leaching after fireman, and in general, doing the whole block party thing.
And then, the fireworks are just across the street. It is a fun night.

Sounds WAY better than what my mother suggested. "Lets go over to "insert-family-friends I've known since birth"'s house, and we'll have a BBQ before "family friend's daughter" gets married.
Yes, WAY better. Plus, I don't have to wear a skirt!

The housing market in Chicago is soft. We have several homes in our hood for sale. Rehabers are losing their asses.

Rehabers as in house flippers! We have several in our area that were purchased by investors, but they have been on the market for over a year.
