I have never seen the stage production. I was in it a gazillion years ago when I was young, cute, and thin, and I love the movie (I have the collectors edition of the dvd.) So this will be very exciting. It'll be fun to see my friends too.

Well, the film is considered better than the show for the way it's put together and how it incorporates more of the Shark men and Jet women. But the play holds such a special place in my heart...

West Side was, shall we say, near perfection. The cast was superb, the dancers - WOW! The choreography was performed flawlessly. The set was simple yet creative and interesting. Louis Hobson was a great Tony - which made me very happy. I've not been a huge fan of his, but the last two times I've seen him (previously as Che) he has really done an excellent job.
Having the three dances in a row - Gym, America, Cool - was total overdrive, especially as performed by this cast. And the dream ballet was so beautiful.

The choreography in West Side Story is amazing. The three "big" dance numbers happen back-to-back... the dance at the gym (both gangs), America (the Shark girls), and Cool (Jets with three Jet girls.) The entire show was just an attack on your senses. The good kind...

I got to play Anita my junior year in college, whch I'm so grateful for, because I would never be considered ethnic enough to play it in the professional world. (Even though I'm all Italian, I've been told I don't "look ethnic" enough to play Italian and/or Latina.) I adore the movie (I've probably seen it over 20 times) and I also saw a pretty decent production of the show at the Kennedy Center back in high school. I remember Rex Smith was Tony, and all us girls thought he was "so cute!" LOL!
In the interest of full disclosure, after the show I was thinking who I would cast in MY production of the show, and I kid you not Erika, you were my choice for Anita. I also would cast you as Florence in Chess.
I wish our shows had longer runs.

DD: Awwwwwwwwwwww... That's AWESOME! Hey, put me in a wig, and I can pull it off, dammit. :-P (When I did it in college, I dyed my hair jet black, and pin-curled it every night. It was short and layered, and it looked awesome.)
