Bill Maher was on fire last night.

It was a bizarre episode. I was annoyed that Bashir just sat there, I wanted him to tell those two to shut the hell up.

Anyone who thinks they are going to learn ANYTHING from watching Bill Maher needs a brain transplant. For Maher to sit there on national TV and say that Saul Alinsky is some civil rights activist who fought for the rights of black people and is otherwise an "unknown" is simply ridiculous. Alinsky is best known (and still a HUGE influence today) because of a book he wrote called RULES FOR RADICALS (didn't hear Maher mention that at all, did you?). Some of the tactics he wrote about included:

*A "fart-in" wherein a large number of African Americans "won" a free dinner and a night out at the opera or ballet. The dinner would consist largely of baked beans and other gas-promoting foods so the white, rich establishment at the opera/ballet would have to sit in a theater amongst a large group of people who were passing gas.
*A "piss-in" wherein he encouraged African Americans to use the urinals and toilets in public places and not let others use them.

Alinsky is considered the king of community organizers and the idea that Obama has never heard of him or never read his book is asinine.
Maher also did not mention that Alinsky was a Communist/Marxist and that his book is still HUGELY popular today (currently number 59 in Books at Amazon with over 180 reviews). So the idea that the radical left don't know this guys is completely dishonest. But then, Maher counts on the ignorance of his audience, and it looks as if that ignorance is plenty strong!

Wow, Jordan! It is certainly hard to argue with your intelligent, well thought out response to my post. I had no idea I was dealing with such educated people here. Nice to know.

I wager that anyone who reads this thread is going to learn more from my post re: Saul Alinsky than they are going to learn from Bill Maher's snarky comments. I think that is why your response was so, oh I don't know, ANGRY????

Oh dear, where to begin???? I will try to do this in a kind way, as I hate to make people cry.

Let's start at the very beginning.

Jordan (and YOU) both used foul language when addressing a post to me and told me to "shut up". Neither of you effectively negated nor challenged ANY of the facts within my initial post. Show me where any of my posts in this thread show anger. I am not angry as I sit here and type. I am smiling!! I have a big grin across my face; there is a great deal of satisfaction in knowing that I am right, and that I am dealing with small-minded people who cannot win a debate against me on the merits of their argument or on the FACTS, and therefore have to resort to petty, childish responses.
Therefore your and Jordan FAIL in the "not angry" department.

Did Maher tell you that Alinsky wrote a book? NOPE! Did he tell you the name of the book? NOPE! Did Maher mention the popularity of Alinsky's book with those on the left? NOPE!! Did he mention how odd it was for a book written in the early 70s to still be in publication, to be in the top 60 book sales on Amazon, and to have over 180 reviews on Amazon? NOPE!! Did he mention any of the tactics Alinsky used, like I did? NOPE!! Did Maher mention that Alinsky was affiliated with the Communist Party and was a supporter of the philosophy of Karl Marx? NOPE!!!!
The main idea behind Maher's rant was that Alinsky was a nobody that no one has ever heard of. Yet, I blew that claim right out of the water, didn't I?? Maher is COUNTING on your ignorance. And it appears that he has nothing to worry about.

Uhhhhhh, you might want to READ the wiki link you posted. Pay REALLY close attention to the paragraph that begins "Alinsky's tactics were often unorthodox". They mention the "fart-in" and the "Piss-in" right there on the link you provided!!

The notion that it's some sort of Democrat bible is just silly. Renewed interest in the book began, really, when it became associated with Obama during the election. The spike in its rank now is because of Gingrich, Maher, et al.

I didn't read them all, of course, but at a glance most of the Amazon reviews seem to be from spooked right-wingers. Which is odd, considering that the Tea Party makes use of what Alinsky talks about.

Maher didn't mention Alinsky's affiliation with the Communist party probably because he didn't have one: When asked during an interview whether he ever considered becoming a Communist party member, he replied: 'Not at any time. I've never joined any organizationnot even the ones I've organized myself. I prize my own independence too much. And philosophically, I could never accept any rigid dogma or ideology, whether it's Christianity or Marxism.'"

Actually, I had heard of Alinsky from Newt Gingrich.However, the right has been talking about him more than the left. Glen Beck has said some of the exact same thing you have about Alinsky. This coming from a guy who thinks he "has the facts" .

People like Mikey believes Saul Alinsky is the architect of every action Obama or the left takes. The right believes that Obama follows Alinsky to the letter and that everybody on the left studies Alinsky.The right has lots of quotes they claim come from Alinsky advocating shocking tactics. They believe there is a plot to create complete disorder and a breakdown of society to make way for a new communist order that enslaves humanity.

I discovered The Republicans pushed the Alinsky meme in 2008.Not as much as the William Ayers and Reverand Wright but it was there. My guess is Mikey is a Glen Beck fan who gets his news and 'facts' from Fox. Your hatred towards community organizers is very telling. Do you really see what they do as being something bad? Really? You would discourage a teenager from becoming a community organizer?

Why is Saul Alinski, in whatever tenuous ties people can dig up between him and Obama, so much more frightening than John Hagee, Cindy Jacobs, Rod Parsley, Peter LaBarbera, Pat Robertson and these other fringe figures who are not only a very real presence in politics today but people whom three of the four remaining GOP candidates proudly court?

Calvin, ask Mikey that question.It's a fair and honest question. I doubt Mr. 'I am smarter than You' will have an answer for you.
