The new Disney? I mean, I remember when little girls wanted to be Ariel or Snow White. I also remember having fond dreams of flying off to Neverland or dancing amongst the Newsies (okay...I was thirteen at the time LOL. Can you blame me?). Now, look at the **** that Disney has given us now. I cannot watch Hannah Montana without throwing up, I cannot rent the Pacifier without putting a gun to my head. What's worse is that it's gotten all CGI on us. If only Pixar hadn't stepped onto the scene. I'm even in the process of writing a novel that talks about the corruption of one what use-to-be a magical media giant. Does anyone agree that Disney has gone extremely downhill?
Well, Disney now owns Marvel, who owns Howard the Duck. Disney owns Howard the Duck. One can only hope that they return to their original splendor by making a sequel to such a heartwarming masterpiece.

I happen to enjoy the vast majority of Pixar's movies. They're extremely well done. Anyway, they've returned to their hand-drawn animation roots with The Princess and The Frog. If it's well received, maybe we'll see more movies along the same line.
Yeah, I hope The Princess And The Frog can bring back the 2D animation and the lyrical musicals. I'm liking everything about The Princess And The Frog so far but I'll have to wait till music and more drawings from the film are released. By the way, did anybody hear how many things Disney had to change in the film, simply because the public thought it was racist? Honestly.

Clearly Disney had some trepidation because they had a lot of things to consider. It's the first time they've had an African American character that wasn't a Hyena, so obviously all eyes are on them. Set it in Louisiana and Boom there's a potential powder keg. I commend them for attempting a progressive piece and hope it's great.

Yeah, me. I'm against those.
Nope. I don't like Miley, but it's not like Armagedden.
For the record: I find the "old Disney" to be incredibly sexist and wouldn't allow a copy of TLM in my house.

I'm for Reg's allusion to Phyllis's reference to what Weez said.
I'm gonna have to agree with brian who agreed with the allusion that Reg made to what Phyllis said in regards to Weez's comment.
Taz is right.
"Who am I to argue with Besty?"
Note to self: throw this back in JB2's face whenever possible.
Note to madbrian, link me to one post where I have ever argued with Besty.

i'm surprised you didn't attach or mention peter david's "disney heroines fictional round table," where snow white, jasmine, ariel, and belle have a little chat. some excerpts:
Snow: I must say, before we start, that I admit my breath
is a bit taken away by the changes in clothing styles for
Disney heroines. With your little harem outfit, Jasmine, and
you, Ariel, with your - shells - and both of you with all
that skin hanging out: It seems a trifle - what's the word?
Belle: Sluttish?
Ariel: Oh, well, thanks a lot! Big talk from someone whose
idea of a good time is sitting around in an apron talking to sheep.
Belle: You talk to fish.
Ariel: But they talk back.
Snow: Actually, I was going to say "daring" rather than
"sluttish." But this really brings us to our first point of
discussion: Namely, what do you think our role in movies today
should be?
Jasmine: I'll tell you what it _shouldn't_ be. It shouldn't
be sitting around waiting for someone to "take you away from
it all." I mean, come on. Could you see me singing, "Some
day my prince will come"? Ack ack ack.
Snow: You don't have to stick your finger down your throat
and gag, Jasmine. It happens to be a lovely song.
belle getting snotty, and part of what you are making reference to:
Snow: Belle, who are all these people you're talking about?
Belle: Authors. Playwrights. Philosophers. Crack open a
book, why don't you? You, too, Miss Turkish Trunks. And you
too, Fishy.
Ariel: I read books. Human books.
Belle: Oh, right. You can't remember tough words like "feet"
and you don't know why fire burns. How'd they miss having you
on _Jeopardy_, I wonder. Oh, and here's a news flash for you:
It's a fork, OK? A _fork_. You eat food with a fork. You don't
comb your hair with it. If you combed your hair with it, it
would be called a _comb_, not a _fork_. All right, Einstein?
Jasmine: Some of us have royal duties to attend to and
don't have a lot of time for books.
Belle: That is _so_ typical. You three are just typical
elitist examples of the societal class structure. All of you,
born to royalty. Bored children of privilege.
Snow: But you're royalty, too! At the end of the movie, you
married ... uh ... what _was_ his real name?
Belle: I ... don't know. Besides, I was talking about being
born to entitlement. You lived your lives in castles, children
of kings and queens - or at least kings, since there never
seem to be any queens in Disney films. So you endured a couple
of days of hardship, dabbling in the sort of life that I lived
every single day, before you settled down with your prince.
It's disgusting. Particularly you, Ariel, who totally subverted
everything she was in order to be part of her man's world.

I hardly see how that is relevant to this discussion. Do you agree with my cautious agreement with Phyllis' stand on Weez's opinion of Besty or not????
I'm against anyone who's against Weez. I'm also against anyone who's against children's entertainment.
Pixar has done some great work with, IMO, Toy Story being their very best. And don't get me started on Finding Nemo - what a fun film! And since you mentioned The Pacifier I think it was very cute for what it was - children's fare. I'm not a Vin Diesal fan but thought he was adorable in the film. Certainly not worth killing yourself over. It's rather poor form to even joke about committing suicide.
And have you ever watched an episode of Phineas and Ferb? Man, that show is funny and I love the random musical numbers. And Hannah Montana isn't the crap that people make it out to be. The show gets stepped on a lot because it's in the public eye so much but, really, it can be really funny. Any episode with Dolly Parton is great and the episode with The Rock make me nearly pee my pants from laughing so hard. Isn't the greatest thing ever? No. Is it the causing the corruption of the youth of our country? I should say not.
bethnor, that made me laugh.
Oh, bethnor - THANK YOU. I can't even begin to tell you how hard that made me laugh!!!
As for Disney, I'm very excited they are going back to their roots with 2D animation. I have nothing against Pixar, but it's not the same as what I grew up with and love so much. To me, Disney's last good animated film was THE LION KING which was 15 years ago. Knowing that even more are in the works like RAPUNZEL makes me giddy inside. I'm a Disney fanatic. Always have been, always will be.
Jordan, I'm hoping they set their sights on an adaptation of 12 Dancing Princesses. That was one of my favorites as a child.
Oh, Eris I LOVE that one! They still have so many great stories to make. Little Red Riding Hood, The Snow Queen, 12 Dancing Princesses, Rumpelstilskin, Jack & the Beanstalk, Hansel & Gretel, Goldilocks, The Princess & The Pea (just to name a few).
There was a very interesting adaptation of the Snow Queen starring Bridget Fonda. Not a cartoon but a pretty good adaptation.
Another Hans Christian Anderson story I liked was The Shepardess and the Sweep.
Another one I'd like to see Disney tackle is The Ordinary Princess by MM Kaye. I'm not sure if it should be animation or live action but I read that book so many times growing up and I think it could be a great vehicle for them.
You know, if we could get the ear of someone at Disney and simply point out the merchendising possibilities behind 12 Dancing Princesses we might be able to get them to consider it. Imagine...12 dolls! lol
