In a few sentances or less, why you are supporting Obama or McCain...
I am supporting Obama because he is the lesser of two evils, simple as that.
I'll try to be brief. I am an independent, but I considerate myself socially liberal and fiscally conservative. In general, I think less government is better. So, in most elections, I need to decide which candidate to support based on the state of the world at that moment, and whether I consider social or fiscal matters to be more pressing. However, this election is much easier for me. Although I believe in less government, clearly the trend of less and less regulation has landed us in the crapper. And the idea that wealth will trickle down just doesn't seem to be working out, does it? Given all these factors, my decision to support Obama is a no-brainer.
No MCCAIN and here's why: Voted against a national MLK Holiday until 1989, voted to confirm Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court, 1993 keynote speaker at a fundraiser for a group that sponsored an anti-gay ballot initiative in Oregon, backed Ronald Regan on tax cuts for the wealthy, abortion and support for the Nicaraguan contra.

You better think that point over again. Regulation is what makes a mess.
"And the idea that wealth will trickle down just doesn't seem to be working out, does it?"
Who is creating the jobs in America? It's not the middle class or the welfare class.
Bill Maher put it best when he said Obama didn't "have that 'I'm going to blow this' look on his face". He was talking about Democrats, but I feel it sums up my feelings about both parties.
I'm also voting for Obama because this country needs a breath of fresh f**king air, already.

How's that working out so far?

Take a look at history. Jimmy Carter messed up things with regulation. Reagan came in, took the restraints off and the economy flew.
America is the second largest taxer of corporations. Why should companies stick around the US when they can get a better deal overseas?
I am voting for Obama because I like his policies, especially his education policy. I am glad someone sees that NCLB does not work. To me education is about teaching children how to learn, not throwing standardize test answers at them.
I also don't support canidates who want to take my right to choose away and that don't believe that women should be making equal pay to their male counterparts.
I don't support a canidate who thinks healthcare is a responsibility and not a right

Goth you should write history...you are already so good at rewriting it.
Goth - You are clearly the most ignorant poster on this board.
Reagan mismanaged the economy so badly that he presided over the worst recession in America since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Under Reagan unemployment hit 10.8% the highest since 40s when the world was still in the Depression.
Reagan increased a national debt of less one one trillion dollars and ran it to more than five trillion with his tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations while increasing military spending. The debt went from 33.5% of the Gross Domestic Product to 75% under Reagan. Poverty, homelessness exploded and Reagan's deregulation and willingness to look the other way while savings-and-loan executives looted their institutions (see John McCain) saddled the nation with a $500 billion bill.
"America is the second largest taxer of corporations. Why should companies stick around the US when they can get a better deal overseas? "
Well if they want our business they must pay our taxes. If they want to use our infrastructure, our government, our resources, our protections, our military, our land then yes they need to PAY PAY PAY. Simple as that.
Goth--you can thank George W. Bush for robbing Republicans of the right to fly the flag of "fiscal responsibility."
From henceforth, Republicans will be known throughout history as the party that reduced taxes for corporations and the wealthy, devaluing the dollar and running up the national debt.
The GOP has proven itself to be irresponsible and profligate and can never be trusted to safeguard the economy again.

Obama...with my eyes closed, my nose held and hoping for the best.
I don't like either, but the final straw with McCain was the decision making involved in choosing Palin. It's widely acknowledged that he wanted Lieberman or Ridge but when certain factions balked, he cowtowed to special interests and went the cynical and calculated route with Miss Sarah.
If he can't have the courage of his own convictions on something like this, how's he going to be with any other decision he'd have to make as president?
I'm voting for the Democrat Obama because he's the lesser of two evils where McCain and he are concerned and actually has a shot at the White House unlike my Libertarian top dog Bob Barr. Down-ballot all bets are off.
I never understand the concept that the economy flourished in the Reagan years. I bought my first house in 1982 and do you know what the interest rates were at that time? 16%!!! No bs, and it was not very easy to get a mortgage at that time either, even if you could afford to make the payments on it with that ridiculous interest rate. The only people who made money during the Reagan era were his rich Republican friends in oil, finance and automotive industries.
My portfolio (if that's what you want to call it) made money in the Clinton years in real estate and modest investments. That seems like a very very long time ago. Call it consumer confidence, reassurance, government intervention, whatever. I don't think its coincidental.
I'm undecided at this point.
Should I vote for Obama in the morning before I go to work, or just wait until after work and skip the gym that day?
I am voting for Obama for many, many reasons, but chiefly because he's the only one of the two who will repair our critically injured standing in the world.
I'm voting for Obama simply because I believe him, and I believe in him.
I was seriously thinking of writing in Hillary Clinton when I went to vote. That was up until two weeks ago when the enormity of our decision would be. John McCain is a scary individual who I don't trust would be able to really lead this country in the right direction.
I'm not really sure Obama will either, but if anything happened to Obama and Biden had to take over, I would feel somewhat reassured in the country's leadership. I cannot say the same about McCain and his decision. Normally a VP selection doesn't sway me one bit, but this time, its HUGE. If that's an example of his decision making, then we're in trouble.
I have decided to vote for Obama because I have agreed with most of what he has said so far. I also am voting for him for a fresh change.
I voted for him in the primary because I believed he had the best chance in the general against a Republican.
I think a lot of people confuse our electoral system with something much more grand. This position is that a figure head. In this so-called incredible democracy we only get two "choices." Choices sometimes I can't see a difference in. At least with a Democratic selection we know there will be oversight, there can be justice. Choice can emerge once again.
George Bush's is one of the most powerful leaders in our history and his rule is unconstitutional. NO ONE should wield that kind of power and we will strike it the second that tyrant leaves office.
I love how the ONE person to come on this thread as a Republican was 100% reactionary rather than trying to make a statement in defense of his choice of candidate. Typical.
I'm voting for Obama because I believe he will try to fix the educational system, I believe he will at the very least not RAISE my taxes, and should something happen our future president, we won't be left with Sarah Palin in charge.
I've voting for Bob Barr because I am FED UP with the two-party system. I'm a fiscal conservative, a social liberal, and an all-around hardcore Libertarian who believes in small government and personal freedom.

"I never understand the concept that the economy flourished in the Reagan years."
In 1984, Reagan won the election with an electoral vote of 525 and carried 49 states. Why do you think that was?
He had an incredibly ineffective opponent?
Besides, it took a while for the full impact of Reaganomics to be realized. Who do you think started all the borrowing from Asia that has led us to where we are today?
