"In 1984, Reagan won the election with an electoral vote of 525 and carried 49 states. Why do you think that was?"
Nixon won by a similar margin in 1972. What's your point?

Because he caught a break at election time and the economy, that was mired for 3/4 of his term, miraculously rebounded just in time for the election. Not to mention the Democrats put up the mighty Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro up against him. If you think the country wasn't ready for a female leader this year, you can't imagine the reservations about Ferraro back then.
Not to mention, the country gave our current "leader" another term as well. Means nothing. History tells the story.

I'm voting for Obama because I believe in what he is saying, unlike McCain, who doesn't even believe what he himself is saying.
And like others have said, I would feel confident with Biden as President if something happened to Obama. Not so with McCain's choice of running mate.

And I will say: Reagan was an extremely effective campaigner and for some reason, was beloved by people despite his arming terrorists, disobeying the constitution, running up a huge deficit and completely ignoring the AIDS crisis.

"In 1984, Reagan won the election with an electoral vote of 525 and carried 49 states. Why do you think that was? "
There is no denying Reagan's popularity at the time but that's not the whole story. The Democratic party was coming off a very conflicted primary AND Mondale chose a female running mate. Amazingly progressive at the time not widely accepted. BARELY HALF of the voting population actually turned out to vote.
While it was a true landslide for Reagan it exemplifies the inherent problem with the electoral college. There were VERY close margins in that election in states like Pennsylvania where the undemocratic electoral college's all-or-nothing method nullifies half the population's vote.

I'm voting for Obama because I accidentally drank the Kool-Aid. Then I was brainwashed and have since become delusional. It had nothing to do with weighing issues, character and temperament and then making an intelligent decision. Also, I have been completely hoodwinked regarding That One's past associations, Muslim leanings and arrogance. Sorry, it's out of my control.

Do not underestimate the power of charisma. FDR was known for having tons of it, and look at all he was able to accomplish. (Not saying he was "perfect" either.)
My father-in-law is a dyed-in-the-wool liberal Democrat and has been his whole life. He despised the politics and administration of Ronald Reagan, yet he was seated next to him once for the duration of a Grid Iron Dinner. He said that Reagan was absolutely charming, friendly and engaging. (And my father-in-law basically hates PEOPLE!) Reagan had charisma (even though many of us may not have noticed).
Obama's ability to inspire people should not be considered frivolous. It is a critical asset for a world leader. It certainly is not the only quality of importance; there must be substance behind the charm. I'm not completely sure why, but I trust Obama and believe that he will surround himself with other men and women of substance.

And, yeah, he's definitely hotter than McCain.
Then again, who isn't?

Let's see if I can make this make sense...
Is anyone voting for Obama primarily because they hate McCain and Obama is the best chance of defeating him?
When I vote over here in ye merrye olde England, I can never work out if I should vote Lib Dem (I like them most, but they usually come third in everything, so is a vote for Lib Dem going to help build towards future success, or is it a waste of a vote here and now?) or Conservative (because much as I'd rather not have a Conservative government, I consider them a (marginally) lesser evil than Labour, and in a two-horse race, you don't go putting your money on another horse altogether without SERIOUSLY good cause).
Or are you all lovely people who are voting for Obama because you believe in him? :)
If you can't decide which of the two candidates is better, then decide which is worse, and vote for the other guy. If you don't like McCain, I implore you (because American politics affect us all XP) to vote for Obama so we don't end up with the Republicans squeaking into the top spot again.

I am voting for McCain because Barack Hussain Obama scares the crap out of me. His character is shady (at best), he's a radical, he has NO experiance, oh the list goes on and on and on..... The libs need to stop paying so much attention to how Tina Fey plays Sarah Palin on SNL and pay MORE attention to how Barack Hussain Obama is associated with terrorists and radicals. Now THAT is scary! But, the sad part is I don't believe libs have the brain cells in their head needed to comprehend who they are worshiping.

Hey, to each their own opinion.
I'm voting for Barack Obama because he is the goodest person we've ever had as a presidential choice.

NO, I'm not a liberal. You just came across like a troll. If that's your real opinion, OK you're just dead wrong, but OK. You are a swing.
