That is terrifying. Seems like they caught the guy though...I hope she's okay. Updated On: 7/8/13 at 11:50 AM
The attacker grabbed another woman by the hair and punched her in the face.
A 40-year-old woman was stabbed on a subway train at 59th Street and Lexington Avenue Monday, and authorities believe a 20-year-old woman attacked her at random, according to a law enforcement official.
Police say the suspect also attacked a second woman, punching her and pulling her hair.
Authorities say the 40-year-old woman was stabbed in the stomach and shoulder on the northbound 6 train at about 10 a.m. A law enforcement official says the victim ran into Bloomingdale's for help.
She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The official tells NBC 4 New York that the stabbing appeared to be random. The suspect was arrested at the station.
A knife with a blade 3-4 inches long was recovered.

This did not make me happy. The R is my home train and I use it often. My son goes to Hunter and gets off at that station daily.
they have the person in custody. I'd think the odds of this happening again on the same train line is pretty minimal.
But, oy, what a terrible thing.
'This did not make me happy. The R is my home train and I use it often. My son goes to Hunter and gets off at that station daily."
?? That means the R train is dangerous now?
whatever. I'm sure you got my drift.
trains don't stab people; people stab people.

Of all the train stations in New York, the 59th & Lex station is the worst, a hellish nightmare of tight hallways staircases and platforms, I do everything I can to avoid it. Prayers for the poor victim.
I have to agree. That station should come with the sign: Welcome!....TO HELL!

I work elsewhere now but I used to have to transfer at the 59th & Lex station for my work commute. Completely agree with you both. It's the worst.
thank you art scallion.
Jane2, never said the R was dangerous. My concern was more for the station like several others had mentioned, since my son gets on and off there everyday.
I'm afraid I don't understand, you made this comment right after the attack was posted:
"This did not make me happy. The R is my home train and I use it often. My son goes to Hunter and gets off at that station daily."
So, I'm not sure what your point is?
Pammy, my point is that you don't have to worry about taking that same train in fear that you will be stabbed! be safe.
I realize that completely. For the moment it just stunned me. Been taking the subway for 45 plus years and only a few times was i really scared.
Ich. That's my stop.
