re: Worst Movie Of All Time?

I know this movie has received great acclaim, but I particularly could not stand Punch Drunk Love. It was boring, slow and really stupid.

I agree with Gangs of New York. Stupid movie. Horrible acting. Highly overrated. The only redeeming element of that film was Daniel Day Lewis. He was good. Everything else - bleh.

re: Worst Movie Of All Time?

I loved SUMMER OF SAM.

And if you don't enjoy SHOWGIRLS, you don't enjoy LIFE! And that is the end of that conversation.

Did somebody actually say that GOSFORD PARK was the worst film they have ever seen? Oh, dear...someone needs to see more movies.

Some:
--THE SLUGGERS WIFE--a completely forgotten Neil Simon film that temporarily sunk Rebecca DeMornay's career.
--EXIT TO EDEN--Gary Marshall makes a sitcom Skinemax film.
--Just about everything Rob Reiner has done since MISERY.
--DUNE---The great David Lynch's direst hour. Maybe the worst film of the eighties.
--THE SCARLET LETTER--Reverend Dimmesdale helps the Native Americans, Hester Prynne's black maid takes a sensuous hottub while her boss and the Rev get it on in a pile of grain, Demi Moore tries to act again....it would be hilarious if it weren't so BORING!!
--SLAVES OF NEW YORK--Merchant/Ivory does "hip" via Tama Janowitz. It ain't pretty.
--JADE--Ugly, mean-spirited thriller that killed Linda Fiorentino AND David Caruso's careers. Thanks William Friedkin!

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

re: Worst Movie Of All Time?

I agree with Doxy about Quentin Tarantino; but not because his films are violent, but because they are so ponderous. However, there are far too many rotten, boring, and overrated films, to pick just one. There are hundreds of b to z list films that are just a complete waste of film; but it's the A-list films that disappoint the most. THE ENGLISH PATIENT is, horrifyingly dull and pretentious; and, MY FAIR LADY is dull, stodgy, poorly choreographed, un-cinematic and miscast. I hate them both.
And enjoy the beauty - all the joy and beauty - that a Merry Christmas can bring to you!

Agree thoroughly with "Jade", "English Patient", "My Fair Lady", and especially "Crossroads". UGH! I was suckered into seeing that by someone who assured me "it's so bad it's good". Well, it isn't. It's painful to see the talented, sexy Zoe Saldana (as Brit's haughty upper-crust friend) being wasted in another bomb (she was also in "Center Stage", "The Terminal", and that Ashton Kutcher remake of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner").

I'm adding "How to Make An American Quilt." An orgy of boring, pointless melodrama. I walked out on it (actually, there's so much crying in that movie, I was WASHED out of the theatre on a tidal wave of mucus.)
I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."

How about the new Once Upon A Matress?? I couldn't close my mouth from shock at all of the awful things going on in that movie...........that is, except when I was on the floor dying laughing at some horribly acted line or song.

Spanglish also gets my vote.

This isn't the worst ever, but it's worse than most-- Killing Me Softly. If it weren't for the hot sex scenes in the unrated version (which my roommate so conveniently has), it would be a total waste of celluloid.

From Justin to Kelly... I cant believe I paid money to see that movie.

re: Worst Movie Of All Time?

I agree with the Tarantino thing. A little action is good, gratuitous violence is boring and not entertaining in the least.

Titanic was pretty horrid, too.

Phantom of the Paradise. I saw it at a "classic" film showing at the Orpheum. I'm probably completely alone in hating it. I liked some of the music, but the actual movie...cult hit or not, I despised it and am still pissed at Brian De Palma for wasting an hour and a half of my life. If I ever meet him, he owes me $9.
Literal tacos! Sheesh. Y'all are nasty....

Oh I actually enjoyed Spanglish. And now I hate Téa Leoni.

re: Worst Movie Of All Time?

I am a proud owner of a From Justin to Kelly DVD. I paid to see it in the theatre more than once. I watch it regularly.

Is it a well-crafted arthouse classic? No.

Is it full of good acting? No.

but can it lift me out of a depression in 5 seconds flat? Yes.

I don't think it was setting itself out to be anything other than a "fun" movie with no substance or style. So, it gets my vote.

tacos...I hate Phantom of the Paradise. I don't know if the humor just didn't click with me or what, but it's a huge waste of time.

re: Worst Movie Of All Time?

I'm with you on FROM JUSTIN TO KELLY. I love every musical number in it. I also paid to see it in a theater, and own the DVD, as well. It's no more lousy than the beach films or Elvis films of the 60's, and it's just as fun.
And enjoy the beauty - all the joy and beauty - that a Merry Christmas can bring to you!

paradox-

Personally, I don't see how any movie fan can hate Tarantino, and I understand you don't like the violence in his films, but have you seen Jackie Brown? If not, I think you'd like it.

re: Worst Movie Of All Time?

Speed 2 was horrible, as was that other Sandra Bullock movie with Ben Affleck, I can't remember the name.

re: Worst Movie Of All Time?

i think u're thinking of Forces of Nature. yep, that was horrible, as well
Yes, I'm pinay. And I'm proud of it!

re: Worst Movie Of All Time?

Reservoir Dogs is probably my least favorite Tarantino film, but I still don't mind it. I think probably the worst movie I've seen is either Kangaroo Jack, which I watched like 10 minutes of and cringed, or Steel.

Also, a good place for a list of the worst movies ever made is IMDB's bottom 100 list: http://www.imdb.com/chart/bottom

War of the Worlds

re: Worst Movie Of All Time?

Crossroads, Swept Away,

I know you didn't just try to insult Magnolia.

Ok, we may have to throw down.
