adult board -- redux

An honest and intelligent response by Beaverhausen to a ridiculously unecssary thread created by EbonicSinger.

And yet people still wonder why there are requests for an adult board.

And just when you think you're out there on your own, you see yourself in someone else's eyes. And if they told you you could never love yourself - it was a lie. - Taboo

p.s. Ebonic's thread is the one with no subject created this evening, 6/27 at 7:46pm. Everyone should take a look to see an example that supports the need for more intellignet posting.

Jose', in the name of everything holy, if you're so damn fixated on this idea, just do it. See what happens.

Plumster,

When the third board is created I know to expect that we won't see your posts there.

I think it will survive just fine.

That's lovely. Since you say "when," stop making all these efforts to justify it and just do it already.

I am an adult, however am not interested in this. Segregation is not neseccary.

How would one prove they are over 18, anyway?

I'm not for it. We theatregoers are a small group as is. No need to further diminish conversations.

Anti- New Board

sooner or later the whole concept of this whole website is going to change. This is Broadway World.com which happens to have an off topic board.

If you guys want "adult" oriented themes, subjects, posts.... go to another website.

I am a BWW.com fan, but I dont rely on it for EVERYTHING!!!???

Anti- New Board

TWoP seems to do just fine with "General Gabbery" threads to go along with its on-topic threads. But then, it's all pre-divided by show, anyway, which is an automatic reducer of discussion size.

adult board -- redux

Good grief. Does anyone actually read thru the discussion? What part of "optional third board" ...no membership fee, no rigid rules... keeps getting lost? A message board can't be rigidly policed, nor should it be. A third board would serve to direct some of the board traffic in a different direction. All the "adults" are asking for, in my opinion, is our own area in which to hang out where the "flavor" is a little more chronologically mature. It doesn't mean that no one younger can't ever visit...

If there is ever an "adult" board, hopefully it will be mostly self-moderated. Which is to say, that if someone who is not an adult ventures onto the adult board and starts a "Who would u like 2 take to the prom?" thread, that thread would either a) be moved; b) be ignored and rapidly disappear; or c) meet with the displeasure of some of the adults...and you know what that can be like...

I'm an adult - and I don't want such a place. Teens provide good discussion as well.

My fear is that a discussion on the Adult board about a news item will be duplicated on the Broadway board. I don't want to have two different conversations about it.

If it were an Off-Top Adult Message Board, I'd be all for it, with any Broadway-related threads moved to the Broadway Message Board.

Off-Topic Adult Message Board: fine idea!

Intelligent convos can be held on the two boards already.

What are you adults waiting for? Go on and post a thought-provoking subject. Nothing is holding you back. They are very rare and that disappoints me. All you guys seem to post are lame topics on the off-topic board.

I'm curious how many message boards do some of you visit? Because it certainly is not the least bit unusual to have dozens of separate boards on one site. How many here even remember when, what was it called the All Access board, existed? It was a board with many subdivisions for books, movies, television, and several other categories. How many ever venture over to the West End board? Yes, HELLO! There already is a third board. Has any of the additional boards caused the downfall of anything? Or does it provide a more direct focus to what your interest might be? And where, CapnHook, did anyone suggest it be an adult ON topic board?

And while "Intelligent convos can be held on the two boards already " most of it very quickly gets lost. And not to hurt your feelings, BT11, but what you think is intelligent and interesting many not hold that same magic to me because I view it through less innocent eyes. To me that's one reason I would desire an adult board.

I'm all for the Off Topic Adult board, but it shouldn't be so restrictive, and if you are going to have an age minimum, make it 18 not 21...

ok, I throw this out there as an alternative view/suggestion. I like the idea of a third board, but maybe the distinction should not be along demographic lines, but be divided by subject matter? Put the Hot threads and the "I heart Kale" threads all in one place, and designate another thread for more serious fare (politics, restaurant reviews, whatever). By doing this, you de facto create an adult/kid break, without alienating some of the more sophisticated younger people. Just a suggestion - thanks!

Just an fyi, if you think being an adult means cussing and porn, you have a LOOOOOOONG way to go to actually being an adult. 'Mature teens', indeed!

I'm all for a third board...if that third board is a student board. I think it would be hard to 'police' an adult board, but for the love of St. Brigid, put all the school/nasty parents-related in a contained space.

Why? Because when I have to read how your parents are so rotten because they punished you because you did something wrong but it was really nothing and they are so unfair and they are Nazis and I wish I could just run away, I want to scream 'GET THE F*CK OVER IT! THE COULD BE BEATING YOU! YOU COULD HAVE DRUG ADDICT PARENTS! YOU COULD HAVE NO PARENTS! JUST SHUT THE F*CK UP YOU SELFISH LITTLE BITCHES!!!!'

But I don't. Because I try to be kind. And holding down that sort of hostility is very unhealthy.

OK, once again I am a little late into the topic, but yes I would like to see an adult board.

Not wanting to hear about people's personal angst isn't an uncommon desire. I'd avoid a board devoted to that like the plague. LJ, people. LJ. That wondrous thing that lets you vent to people who actually care.

Besides, we have to leave room for the meaningful adult topics of Tom Cruise, Michael Jackson, not-so-veiled insults, and alcohol.
