I like the idea of the OPTION of a third board on which to CHOOSE to post. It could be labeled an Old Fogey Board, or you could go the other route and label it a Student Board. Whatever. The point, for me, is NOT to rigidly control or exclude anyone, but to allow for the gravitation of posting in different directions....the same function that the creation of an Off Topic Board served a year and a half ago. Create a third venue...with no rigid rules...and I believe that the chips will fall into place on their own. If a "kid " chooses to start a thread on the Old Fogey Board and it "feels okay", no problem. If it belongs elsewhere, I'm sure any number of people would be quick to point out that "this belongs on the other board" and it could be moved...just as it happens now with the Main and OT boards.
To summarize: create a third board that will wick or channel different demographic groups in a particular direction, but don't make rigid rules or regulations about who can or can't post on any of the boards. To overcomplicate the concept is to doom it to failure. Offer a third option... and allow it to develop as it will...without TOO MUCH policing by the moderators. The creation of a third board should enhance the experience of BWW for everyone. Self-monitoring will often be enough to establish the norms for each board. For instance, while a chronological adult might feel free to venture into a thread, under the current set up, where chronological young people are complaining about their parents or school or talking about the wonder that is Idina...and make condescending, irritated, or snotty comments... that would be a) less likely to happen on a three board system and b) be less likely to be tolerated by the "dominant" demographic of that board if it was NOT on the Old Fogey Board.
Just a plea...be open to giving the three-party system, oops...three-BOARD system... a try. But without rigid rules. No membership fees and no rigid age requirements and no over-zealous moderating. Let it evolve into what it will be.
