You Asked For It -- Another Poll on the idea of an Adults Board

Several of you have asked me in some threads and in some PMs whither the Adult Board. We have discussed it. That's about as far as it's gone.

Well, here's another chance to voice your opinion on the creation of an Adults Board. Said Board would require a minimum age of 18 or over to participate.

Please email me at jose@broadwayworld.com

p.s. If you're going to post simply to attack me, please know I've heard all the attacks already. Oh, and, name-calling and personal attacks are against the Guidelines, in case you haven't read them.

Cheers!

how would you control the age of people who go to said adult board?

re: You Asked For It -- Another Poll on the idea of an Adults Board

Can't there be an adult board offered as an optional board on which to post that doesn't have rigid rules? I think that it would monitor itself in that the kids wouldn't deliberately choose that board on which to talk about prom dates. And if they did, they would either be given a hard time for being there, or the thread could be moved to the appropriate board by one of the monitors.

I get uncomfortable when there are too many rules and when it gets too exclusionary. I believe that having a third board as a choice ... an Old Farts board, if you will... would go a long way toward eliminating some of the irritation.

I still don't see how jose. It's the internet! A place where anyone can be anybody. Using pornography sites as an example, they can't even monitor it, they just put out a warning on the opening page.

I think the adults can figure out who the kids are on this board. It's very obvious.

While I am all for it in theory, I don't see how it can work in practice. If board members can run around here with multiple identities unchecked, then how can age be truly ascertained for admittance to the adult board?

Although I dislike the idea of creating more limitations and red tape, perhaps a student board would be less exclusionary and yet still serve the same basic purpose...
So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.~Office Space

If it was feasibly possible to have an adult board, I would enjoy participating on it. However, on the current board, if I see threads started by certain posters that are very young, can't spell, or are just plain ridiculous, I don't click on them.

Everyone? Hi. Yes, it's me. Listen, could we all please turn and look in the direction of Rathnait and acknowledge that, yes, we get her point? And tell her she gets extra credit for re-writing the idea? See, what she wants us to know, is that she feels that CHRONOLOGICAL age has nothing to do with maturity level! And that people who are older often behave as if they are CHILDREN!

Okay, thanks, Rathnait! We get it! Applause for Rathnait everybody, YAY!

[And here to make it easier for you, Rathnait, let my type it out for you here so you can cut and paste it into your response:

Thank you, Namo, for proving my point.

You're welcome!]

Now, Jose, as you know, I was an early proponent of the adult board. But I realized recently that most every conflict on here is caused by a desire to control what is essentially an anarchic medium. The "don't be mean" people, the "be nice" people, the "positive vibes thread" people, they're all trying to set up rules within threads and I was one of them with my suggestion of the adult board.

I think the best plan is to do something loose like Iflit suggested. Because Lord knows, I SO don't want to read another lecture from Plum about this.

re: You Asked For It -- Another Poll on the idea of an Adults Board

One problem that is increasing occurring is the lack of a clear subject line. So an unsuspecting person clicks on a thread only to realize it in no way relates to what's been presented. Now granted OFTEN threads stray off track...but they shouldn't begin that way. I suggest that if the title doesn't clearly denote what's in the initial post, then delete the sucker. Off at the kneecaps, quick and to the point and save the cute pointless title for your creative writing classes.
Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

At the risk of threadjacking, may I just say that the Elphabas have me confused. There's an Elphaba who studied music and an Elphaba who likes leather. They might even be the same Elphaba. I've had nice PM conversations with at least one of you, but for the life of me, I'm not sure which one...

The numberless Elphaba is the leather one, Iflit.
