The show starts at 8pm on the tickets, meaning the DJ or if she has a warm up act start at 8pm. They are on for an hour and she hits the stage between 10 and 10.30pm, so she is around an hour to an hour and half late. I have seen many acts who have done the same thing.
What are audience members expected to do between 9 and 10 or 10.30pm?

Posted: 12/22/12 at 10:49amWhether it an hour, hour and a half or two hours being chronically late like that for all her concerts shows little or no regard for her fans. She needs more time to get ready? Then she should show up an hour, hour and a half or two hours earlier.

Posted: 12/22/12 at 10:56amTerribly sorry that my head is not so far up Madonna's ass that I read every piece of crap printed about her. I just read an article about how pissed off her fans were and it offered no explanation. If it could be blamed on the DVD people, why didn't they offer an explanation to the fans that stood there for over three hours?

JerseyGirl she did not sat anything during the Miami concert because they were filming (she was also told not to say that she was raising money for Sandy that night because she was filming)
As for 'what are her fans supposed to do during that 1 hour etc' probably the same as what the fans did during Sprinsteen, Bon Jovi, Janet, Erasure, Scissor Sisters, Guns and Roses etc (all shows i have been to where the act took to the stage late). It's not like she is the only one. Yet again though it's just another thing to throw at Madonna. Kinda like her high ticket prices that Scary Namo brings up (£20 more expensive than Gaga who has been around FOUR YEARS, same as Sprinsteen, less than Rolling Stones etc)

Posted: 12/22/12 at 11:46amFrom what I read, the tickets said the concert began at 8 and she didn't take the stage until 11:30. It was more like 3.5 hours, DJ or not. No one buys Madonna tickets to hear a DJ. And you mean to tell me that those folks filming don't have modern editing equipment that can edit out her mentioning the delay? They couldn't have made a general announcement leading up to it? The bottom line is that Madonna thinks her $hit no longer stinks. She thinks she's royalty and on a different plain than the rest of the peons of the world. Are there others who feel similar? Sure. They just don't seem to have the number of apologists that defend their every move.

"(she was also told not to say that she was raising money for Sandy that night because she was filming) "
Honestly, song, you are a magician. You're able to pull excuses out of your hat, sleeves, pockets, butt no matter what it is anybody points out. Madonna? Told not to say something? And she didn't say something? There was a time when telling Madonna not to say something was the guarantee that she would.
I notice you've dropped the excuse you created for the people who were disgruntled by the late starts on the US leg of the tour, which if I recall correctly, was something along the lines of "Everybody should know by now that the show starts two to three hours late so they shouldn't complain about it." Like the tickets weren't purchased, in large part, MONTHS before the first show, and as if more than the Madonna Freak Percentile of which you belong goes and scours everything they can to find out every single thing that they are going to see and look at every YouTube of the show because they love having the shows ruined for them.
Really, you're something, song. There isn't a SINGLE criticism of the whole series of "MDNA" missteps (and they were legion) where you didn't have a defense that you strenuously argued here.

If they knew it was going to be delayed that long they had an obligation to inform the crowd, offer a refund or open the bar for complimentary beverages. Especially since this was being filmed for a DVD which would reap them what, HUNDREDS of dollars.
How much did she donate to Sandy relief?
The excuse that she could not mention anything because it is being filmed is a crock of ****. Was every second of that concert on the DVD? Was every little lip-syncing moment that was flubbed allowed to remain on the final cut?
This shows a total disregard for her fans and she deserves to slink away to her palace across the pond and live a life of solitude...free of anything that might irritate her.

Posted: 12/22/12 at 12:06pmThis is the new kind of uneditable DVD. (As if many hours won't be spent sweetening the vocals in post-production. Which "they'll only have to do because she was so sick." Just trying to make it easier on song, there.)

In Philly, there was no announced opening act, on the tickets, on the website, anywhere. (I remember because I was trying to figure out whether there was one, and I couldn't find any mention of one.) There was a DJ playing but as far as I know, this was not a DJ for whom one would buy tickets. It felt like a filler. So it felt like she was 2.5 hours late.
But she apologized, which did help.
But then she did the same thing everywhere else. That tells me it is either disorganized or intentional.
I have been to my share of concerts in my life, including Springsteen, Janet Jackson, Rolling Stones, U2, etc. I have NEVER been to a concert where the main act did not take the stage until 10:30. It is NOT the norm in the US. (I am not including concerts with many acts, just the ones where there is one main act and an opener.)
And having a DJ play for an hour as an opening act is unnecessary. I saw Muse open for U2 on the recent tour, and they only got half an hour.

I think it's deliberate. She considers herself worthy of the longest wait time in history. She's proving to herself that there is no limit to what her fans will endure just to see her. The longer the wait, the more the excitement builds and when she finally appears, the crowd can hardly contain itself and there's a release of that anticipation that grew to unmanageable proportions. Kinda like an orgasm, I suppose.
This is what I believe to be her MO. Having known her and being around her, it's entirely feasible. And it seems to have been working for her. Like I said - EGO

Well, it can't be disorganization since her whole thing is what a hyper-organized person she is, right? And, according to song, she was so busy preparing every single second of this artistically triumphant tour that she simply had NO time to promote the album she had just released. Terribly too busy, no time darling.
Here's the major thing that I think song overlooks when he leaps to make excuses for the late starts: if there isn't an official late start time of 10:30 or whatever, if no announcement goes out to ticket holders telling them of this, than to expect as he does that concert goers should "know" about the late starts (and come later if they don't want to stand around for three hours getting exasperated?) is crazy. With no official announcement, even people who DO know about her sadistic history of late starts on this tour are still going to show up just in case this is the one place or the one venue that demands she actually start within an hour or so of what the ticket says and they don't want to miss anything.

Jerseygirl its like you are not listening, thats just what i said about people talking and not actually listening to response.
The company filming the DVD help up the Miami show not Madonna.
Namo, it aint an excuse ive 'dropped' simple fact is if you have ever seen a Madonna concert and read any press leading up to the night you watch the show on this tour you will know she is late. The late thing is annoying but hardly the big deal you and so many others make it out to be. Here in the UK for example Guns and Roses took to the stage in Manchester around 1 AM, that's annoying.
Namo i am only gong off what was reported and what she said herslef regarding Miami . I know you like to think your say is more important than anyone else's when it comes to Madonna but i listen to what others have said. Here in this she discusses it
http://globotv.globo.com/rede-globo/caldeirao-do-huck/t/programa/v/exclusivo-assista-a-integra-da-entrevista-de-madonna-a-huck/2258773/
Mikem, a few days before Madonna Sprinsteen started late, Scissor Sisters in Manchester were almost 2hrs late. Bon Jovi in Manchester were an hour late, Erasure were over an hour late. All i am saying is it's hardly new, yet oddly i see no threads made about that are bashing them. Do you think people's constant desire to bash her (like Scary Namo Bates) makes a bigger deal than what it actually is.
Her very late starts in Philly and Miami were addressed weeks ago yet still continue.....move on

I don't give a $hit if she was held up at gun point, causing her to be late, her fans were owed an explanation. It was HER they paid hundreds to see. She owed them an explanation. If it was the DVD company, so be it. An announcement could have been made. NONE was made that night. No apology was given. And she has been late EVERY night. Why on earth would someone expect to have to wait 3.5 hours? I saw P!nk in Gothenburg. The tickets said the concert started at 7. She didn't take the stage until 9:30, as it was an outdoor venue and summer in Scandinavia and her staging required SOME darkness. She had THREE opening acts to fill that time. It still sucked.
You act as though because YOU saw this addressed "weeks ago" that I should know and "move on". We're having a discussion. Not everyone is sitting home wanking off to every possible explanation of what her royal highness had for breakfast.

Posted: 12/22/12 at 12:57pmI think that whoever the performer is, and they're seriously late, it's ego. Like you don't want to be the first one to arrive at a party- it's tacky. You've got to be fashionably late. That's how I see it.

simple fact is if you have ever seen a Madonna concert and read any press leading up to the night you watch the show on this tour you will know she is late.
I've seen three. And though there were noticeable acts of sadism towards the people in the seats each time, she never ever once started as late as she does apparently every night now. But of course it's all unofficial. If she had the sense of kindness to announce that she wouldn't be onstage until MUCH later then I can see taking it in stride.
Of course, unlike expert stadium acts like the Stones, Madonna is not brave enough to have proper opening acts, because she knows she will be blown off the stage by any act that works for an audience rather than against them. When I saw the Stones in a stadium, they weren't afraid to have The Pretenders and Kanye West go on before them. I can't think of a single act that would be safe enough for Madonna to put on.

Posted: 12/22/12 at 1:39pmI think Lourdes should open for her. She was just in SWEET CHARITY at her high school so obviously she's talented. She could tap dance, sing "The Glory of Love", take questions from the audience, stuff like that.

"The late thing is annoying but hardly the big deal you and so many others make it out to be."
I think what people are trying to say is that it IS the big deal the people are making it out to be. It may not be a big deal to you, but it's a big deal to the ticketgoers who paid a lot of money for their ticket and have to leave early because she hit the stage so late.
And your comparisons aren't very good ones. There is a huge difference between starting an hour late and starting 2+ hours late. One allows people to stay until the end and still get to work the next day, and one doesn't. I can promise you that Springsteen isn't hitting American stages at 10pm.
Jane, I think you're right that starting late is supposed to build anticipation, but I think it's too long a wait and it's backfiring. It starts to feel disrespectful and a waste of time. I talked to people afterwards who stayed for the whole thing, and the response was, "You know, it really wasn't worth it."
I think Madonna has been a master of career management for many years, but with this tour and the marketing of the album, it feels like she doesn't know who her audience is. The album photos look like she still wants to be the sexy ingenue. Her concert audience isn't kids who are going to a rave. It's adults who have jobs. She's had 3 Top 40 hits in the past 9 years. The kids are not her fanbase anymore.

Posted: 12/22/12 at 2:36pmI wonder how Madonna would react if she made an appointment with someone and she had to sit and wait for 2 1/2 hours? Smoking in front of her is an insult? What would she view that as? But then her fans who paid top dollar to see her aren't really worth her concern.

Posted: 12/22/12 at 3:44pmGood lord, again the show starts at 8 with the DJ on till 9, she has been on average getting started at 10. Meaning she is one hour late, same as many artists. And im pretty sure to most the people on here it's really not that bigger deal because they never went to the show. And Namo you are desperate, desperate for her to fail. When your predictions of the tour flopping in America and getting negative reviews didn't come true (great reviews and most successful tour of the year) you move on to the little lame things. Oh and that clunker album of hers that flopped so bad is the 7th biggest album of the year worldwide....guess you were wrong on that front as well. As for her not starting late on her past tours.....Sticky and Sweet at Wembley Stadium she came on at half 9. Namo I am a fan so I have a vested intrerest in her.... What's your excuse?
