I too am always unnerved by the audio on the chopping of onions and herbs. Mine never sound that crispy. It makes me feel like I've got old herbs.

Thirdrow, maybe you need a sharper knife?

I had way too much time on my hands awhile back and I found this. It's absolutely hysterical...about Giada and her "foodgasm" gone VERY wrong.

I also once read an article that talked about how Everyday Italian is shot very similarly to porn, with the lighting and close-ups. I always thought that's why men could stand to watch it. That and Giada's boobies that are almost as big as her teeth.

That was so funny!! Every time my sister watches her show, she says "her head is too big for her body."

Geek, I can forgive you for not enjoying your own life enough to appreciate the joy that Rachel Ray experiences and shares in the kitchen. I can even forgive you for not being sophisticated enough to appreciate the elegant yet simple cooking that the Barefoot Contessa offers. What I cannot forgive is you referring to Ina as a hippo. That's just rude.

I don't mind Rachel Ray, and despite how some of you might be annoyed by her, you gotta admit, she's got a pretty cool job. I mean, someone paying me to travel all over the country eating food? Why not?

I love Ina. I wrote her a letter when she released her last book, "Barefoot in Paris". I received a letter from her within 2 weeks.

Oh, add the Hearty Boys to my list of "can't stand".

For all my fellow Sandra Lee haters...

The episode threads are the best. I was just reading through some recent ones and the people are absolutely hilarious in their critiques of the show and the host. re: food Network Hosts You Hate

Amen, DBillyP.

I am enthralled with Ina's life. Her background is VERY surprising - and the beauty of the love she's shared for going on 40 years is perfection.

And I am CONVINCED she knows every homosexual in the Hamptons! She sends her husband into the city on Monday to work for the week, and then she spends her days having fabulous cocktail lunches and playing bridge with all the florists and designers in town.

I think we'd be friends.

DG, so true, so true!!

The Food Network used to have a chatroom, but they disconnected it some time ago. If people think this board can get nasty, they never saw the Food Network chatroom!!! OMG!!!

DG, an msn.com (I think) article once referred to Ina's group as her "chirpy friends." I had never heard "chirpy" used to mean "gay!"

Okay, I will admit, Ina's food is fantastic but I can't stand watching her. I'm sorry. I feel like she's a completely insufferable person. She has to use "good" everything. I didn't know there was such a thing as "good butter" until I watched her. ANd she just seems very very pretentious. Her recipes--well, most of her recipes--seem like they would be good, but I don't like her show, at all.

Just my opinion. Sorry if I offended you.

Oh, and is it just me or is Alton Brown one of the only tolerable hosts on TFN? I think he's totally awesome!

iheart - I don't agree, but that isn't offensive - it's the opinion you're entitled to.

And you didn't call her a hippo.

For the record, I LOVE Ina's seeming ease and grace with everything - she seems very peaceful. And I love that she laughs and smiles a lot. The world could use more of graceful laughter.

Orangeskittles, thanks for posting that link. I read it briefly and couldn't help but laugh.

I also want to be invited to one of Ina's parties.

Haha, graceful laughter is good--just as long as it isn't Rachael Ray laughing. When she laughs I always think a puff of smoke is going to come pluming out of her trap and she's going to start hacking and coughing uncontrollably!

Mmm...I made this recipe of Paula's once...a sort of pecan brown-sugar cookie bar. It was delicious. Very rich and buttery. but I definitely couldn't eat more than one at a time.

I think what really bothers me about the thread, geek, is that it focuses on "hate." Instead of starting a thread to needlessly attack those you find "insufferable," why not start a thread to share those you like?

Though the thread started out as negative, some of us interjected those particular hosts we really like (and yes, I contributed to the "can't stand" list).

I really like Donna from Cookworks, but her show is relegated to 4:30AM. Obviously she hasn't taped a new show in a while.

Negativity sells. Besides, why not let out a little frustration evry once in a while? not everything in life is positive, anyway. I'm said, by the way, through the thread that there are hosts that I enjoy.

I got to meet Giada last year at the UCLA Book Fair. I was standing and talking to her while she was in direct midday sun - and there are no words for how gorgeous she is. And so incredibly nice and personable to boot. She could have followed an easy path, considering what her background is. I give her high marks for pursuing her own destiny - and succeeding.
