Never been a fan of Emeril, and not such a big fan of Rachael Ray. She just grates on my nerves.
...which is why I was so upset to hear my cousin tell me she would be working on Rachael Ray's new show in the fall...her TALK show. Not a cooking show. A talk show. Who is responsible for giving this woman a talk show? Certainly not the voice I want to hear chatting every morning.

That's true.
And I still haven't forgiven her for Dr. Phil

There was a great article about Rachel in, I believe, the New York Times. I am having trouble finding it, so in the meantime, this one from slate.com is pretty good.

I like the cooking she does on the show. There's stuff I'd like to and would feel comfortable trying to do on my own.
It's the talking, though. One 30 minute meal is my limit. After one episode I've had enough, regardless of the food. And on a talk show, it is totally the personality, not the skill in the kitchen, that matters.

her older recipes were great but some of her later episodes are getting to be a bit much. SHe makes almost nothing but burgers. A couple weeks ago I flipped on her show and she was pulling out this gorgeous thick, fresh, juicy-looking tuna steak. I watched her slice it and I was like "I can't wait to see what she does with this, it looks really good." Then she takes the cubes of tuna and puts them in her FOOD PROCESSOR and grinds them up to make tuna burgers.
I wanted to cry.

In Rachael's defense, her recipes are good. I know people who swear by her cookbooks.
One of my gripes with her is her use of the chef's knife. If you're going to be on television, learn to use a knife correctly. I'm sure there are people at home emmulating her horrible technique (which can get you hurt if you're not paying attention).

Awww...I like Rachel's 30-minute meals and her predictable "get some of that basil action goin' on there...I gotta take a quick break..."
Her show is good for ideas. Since I get home kind of late during the week, I like being able to make a decent dinner in 1/2 hour. I don't follow her stuff to the letter (she uses too many olives and cherry peppers for my taste) but I do get some really good ideas from her.
Good point about Rachel's knife skills, Dottie. Her knife technique is is horrible. I cringe when they do a close-up because I think she is going to chop off a fingertip!
Alton Brown is one of my favorites, because I get a nice little science lesson as well as a recipe. The other day he made meatballs. It was rather interesting!
And while I don't much care for Paula's cooking, I have fun watching her -- let's see, sautee a tub of margerine in a sitck of butter, coat it with a pound of sugar, bake it, and top it off with ice cream, buttermilk and babyback ribs...Mmmm-mm! Cacklecackle!

That's the thing I love about Rachel: she is not a trained chef. She does it because she loves it. Who cares if there is a fingertip in the salad?!?

Rachel Ray is the Kelly Ripa of the cooking world. So damn annoying.
I don't like what Molto Mario (don't know last names...) cooks.
George Duran of Ham on the Street is the best. He's hilarious.

skittles, I couldnt agree more.
and IC Japan didnt have Bobby Flay!
Iron chef should be about the gross ingredients and voice overs.

"Fukui-san!?" Love Iron Chef. I use to watch it on Japanese tv before it started airing on the food network.
But then iron chef america? it just does not work. I remember when there was a cook off between Booby Flay and one of the Japanese Chefs. Well Bobby Flay won and jumped on the table in celebration. Oh my god, the look on the Japanese Chefs face, it was so disrespectful.

I always thought it was schkweisan...that's how I like to say it
and it WAS best totally in Japanese, before the voice overs. That way you could make up the dialogue. That was fun....
and yes, that is one of the reasons I hate the Flay.

My personal favs are:
Alton Brown- I love how he can present interesting food/science facts in a fun and understandable way.
Giada- Okay...she's absolutely beautiful. I wish I looked like her, but her recipes are also simple.
Ellie Kreiger- Her food is simple, healthy and delicious. Not to mention I find her to be incredibly warm.
Paula Deen- Her food will definitely make your cholesterol climb, but I love her care-free attitude!
Rachael Ray is beyond annoying. I used to like her, but now she just pisses me off.

BAM! = the "off" button on my remote
NOT my kinda guy!
LOVE: Okay, they're not Food Network, but I miss the Two Fat Ladies shows. God, bless 'em! And God rest Jennifer's soul. They are my two all-time favorites.
I used to love Rachel Ray, but I've overdosed on her now. Same with Paula Dean... love her kitchen! Wouldn't want to cross that woman in a dark alley. She'd kill ya quick as look atcha.

"from ma keetchen ta yers!"
The best Iron Chef Japan- was Tako (Octopus.) They had to cut them alive.. and their detached tentacles were still moving in the pot! It was awwwesome.
