MEF: The WORST? REALLY? Did you see HIGH TENSION, BEWITCHED, LAND OF THE DEAD, or FANTASTIC FOUR? PLEASE, if you did, tell me it's better than them!

Okay, maybe I was being a bit hyperbolic. THE FAMILY STONE is slightly better than HIGH TENSION and on par with BEWITCHED. Haven't seen the other two so cannot judge.

The ending of High Tension isn't impossible, it is quite clear that we've been seeing everything from Marie's twisted point of view the whole movie so when said twist appears, it is not the impossibility of it that bothers me, it's the lame cheat, the "get out of jail free" element of it that I can't stand.

Wow Margo, I'm surprised (and thrilled!) that you liked KING KONG. I didn't think it'd be the type of film you'd enjoy.

I'm with ya, Plum. During the semester I hardly have the money nor the time to see anything. It's depressing.

it's the lame cheat, the "get out of jail free" element of it that I can't stand.

I understand what you're saying, but I see it differently. The idea that a person with a mental illness can be capable of such terrible things without knowing it, which is completely possible, is really scary to me.

I also don't believe that the twist was a last resort, or a quick way out. Judging from the little details that were sprinkled throughout (that I only noticed on my second viewing), it was obvious that the filmmakers had something up their sleeve the whole time.

Yes it was. Blindingly, blatantly obvious. Which is another reason why I hate it so. If you're going to make it so thunderingly apparent what's going on, WHY are you making the revelation a lame and poorly presented twist? If they'd done it differently, it could have been far more chilling.

If it was so obvious, why did very few people see it coming?
