Those aren't abbreviations, they're lazy IM-speak. When you're reading quickly through a thread, you want everything to be in the same kind of language- standard, grammatically correct, well-formatted English. It just makes life easier. And when someone can't be bothered to type the "yo" in "your" it's just plain annoying.

IM speak is fine...in IMs! If you want to type out a nice, well thought out post that makes you seem like a semi-intelligent human being, use real words.
