Those aren't abbreviations, they're lazy IM-speak. When you're reading quickly through a thread, you want everything to be in the same kind of language- standard, grammatically correct, well-formatted English. It just makes life easier. And when someone can't be bothered to type the "yo" in "your" it's just plain annoying.
Come on. English is my second language, so if I can do it, anyone can. :)

Posted: 6/13/04 at 7:03pmIM speak is fine...in IMs! If you want to type out a nice, well thought out post that makes you seem like a semi-intelligent human being, use real words.

Caroline: Thought-provoking
Wicked: agree w/ NM: spectacle
Avenue Q: Original
Boy from Oz: Exciting
(By The Way: Thought-provoking is a hyphenate and therefore may be considered ONE WORD and if you need assistance in understanding this message, I would consult a dictionary--something that uses REAL abbreviations like abb., adv., adj. and fr.)

But wickedfan doesn't write nice, well thought out posts, so using real words doesn't apply to him/her.
