There's this note going around on FaceBook that I thought I would post here on BWW.

Here it is! (I'm sticking to musicals that I've seen...not random shows that I'm madly obsessed with like HAIR and Little Shop of Horros):

How did you hear about 7?
My first exposure to 'Company' was through the 2006-2007 Tony Awards. I saw Raul Esparza playing piano and singing a strange yet beautiful song that I had never heard before and I became super curious. I later learned that the song was 'Being Alive' and I have been hooked on Company ever since.

Would 4 make a good movie?
At the risk of getting eaten, I'll say that it already has been made into an excellent film.

What's your favorite song from 10?
I've always loved the song 'In the Middle Of the Night'.

Who's your favorite actor from the original cast (Broadway, London) of number 3?
I loved everyone in the OBC, but none of them came close to Jonathan Groff. His performance as Melchior was spot on and I'm madly in love with his gorgeous voice.

How many times have you seen 9?
I saw Hairspray on tour 2 wonderful times! I would gladly go back a 3rd!

Who's your favorite character from 2?
Velma Kelly is one of my favorite female roles of all time. She's so sassy and sexy...she's a complete thrill to watch onstage (when performed well).

What sort of merchandise do you have from 5?
Oh boy...
3 complimentary programs, the coffee table book, the soundtrack, the OBCR, the film, and the final performance DVD (on blu-ray, of course!).

Is 8 by your favorite composer/lyricist?
I don't think I have a favorite composer, so I would have to say no.

Do you have a recording of every musical written by 1's composer?
I don't have ALL of their other musicals, but I do enjoy the CR's of Cabaret, Chicago, and Flora the Red Menace.

Could you recite all of the lyrics and dialogue from 6 by memory?
I'm a newbie to this show, so I haven't reached THAT status quite yet!

The first musical you ever saw live (or that you at least remember)?
The first live musical I saw was the 2006-2007 national tour of RENT.

The first musical you saw on Broadway?
Wicked. I?m classy.

The first musical you saw off-Broadway?
Does the national tour of STOMP (which I LOVED) count?

The musical got you into musical theatre?
Oh god, here I go...RENT.

Your favorite composer?
I don't have a favorite composer. There are too many composers that I adore. Although this is slightly off-topic, I think the most underrated composer is John LaChiusa. The man is a genius and his wonderful score are always overlooked.

Your favorite musical from your favorite composer?
Like I said, I don't have a favorite composer, but my favorite John LaChiusa score is 'The Wild Party' and since most people probably see Sondheim as their favorite composer, I should say that 'Sweeney Todd' is his best show, by far.

The musical with your favorite choreography?
FOSSEE has the most incredible choreography I have ever seen in my entire life, but since it's more of a revue than a musical...my answer will have to be' Chicago'. Ann Reinking (sp?) captured the essence of Bob Fosse perfectly, which is rare.

Ever left a musical at intermission?
Never have, never will (unless it's because of an emergency).

Your all-time favorite song?
This is one of the toughest questions I will ever have to answer! I really love 'The Flesh Failures' from HAiR as well as 'Wait' from Sweeney Todd, 'America' from West Side Story, 'One Boy' from Bye Bye Birdie, and MANY MANY others. I don't know...I have way too many favorites.

Your all-time favorite lyric?
"Here is the church, here is the steeple, open the door...and look at the crazy married people"

That's a random lyric that never fails to amused me, but as for lyrics as a whole..I have tried my hardest to find a flaw in 'On the Steps of the Palace' from ITW and I just can't find one.

Your all-time favorite line of dialogue?
"To my mind, shame is nothing but a product of Education."

Are you one of those people who leave in the middle of a curtain call?
I'm usually the one that's clapping my hands off.

I really wish that I could have seen Patti LuPone in 'Gypsy'.

How do you feel about the more recent trend of turning popular movies into musicals? (Ex: Shrek, Legally Blonde, Lion King, etc)
As long as they do it well, I'm fine with it.

Your opinion on jukebox musicals?
Like I said for the last question...anything works if it's done well.

Your favorite performance from this year's Tonys?
Well OBVIOUSLY it was HAIR. :)

How did you hear about 7?
My grandma really loves the show, so we watched the movie together a few times, and then I was in a small production/revue of the show when I was younger.

Would 4 make a good movie?
Yes, It would, and has made a great movie.

What's your favorite song from 10?

Who's your favorite actor from the original cast (Broadway, London) of number 3?
I did not see, nor do I know much about the cast of the original production. But, in the revival I loved Christine Ebersole and Mary Testa

How many times have you seen 9?
Just once, but would love to see it again.

Who's your favorite character from 2?
I absolutely LOVE the urchins. They?re songs make the show.

What sort of merchandise do you have from 5?
I have never seen a production of the show, however I love the music, and have been in it.

Is 8 by your favorite composer/lyricist?
No, my favorite composers are Steven Sondheim and Alan Menken. However the music in hair is amazing and iconic.

Do you have a recording of every musical written by 1's composer?
Not all of them but many.

Could you recite all of the lyrics and dialogue from 6 by memory?
Sadly, I probably could. Legally Blonde is such a fun, upbeat, and infectious show.

The first musical you ever saw live (or that you at least remember)?
I believe that the first Musical I ever saw was Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, with the original cast, when I was about three or four. I still remember parts of that experience

Beauty and the Beast

The first musical you saw off-Broadway?
I have never seen an off-broadway musical, however I have seen various regional productions.

The musical got you into musical theatre?
Hmmm?I?m not really sure. I think it would probably be 42nd Street.

Your favorite composer?
My favorite composers (as I said above) are Alan Menken and Steven Sondheim. I love Sondheim for his complex scores. I particularly love Sweeney, Into the Woods, and Company. As for Alan Menken, Little Shop is one of my all-time favorites, and his work for Disney is great. My favorites from him are Little Shop and Hunchback.

Your favorite musical from your favorite composer?
Menken- Little Shop of Horrors
Sondheim- Into the Woods

The musical with your favorite choreography?
I would have to say Oklahoma. I love de Milles choreography. (It?s not on my list, but I can cheat, right??)

Ever left a musical at intermission?
No, and I don?t plan to.

Your all-time favorite song?
Oh, this is hard. I really love Suddenly Seymour, The Flesh Failures/Let the Sun Shine In, No More, Children Will Listen, and it goes on and on.

Your all-time favorite lyric?

If they are done creatively and bring new life to the source material.

If its done well, and has an at least somewhat interesting plot.

How did you hear about 7?
Well, I was bored one night and was thinking I needed to get into a show over the summer. So I researched it and Aida audition stood in. I was cast(as a minister) and feel in love with the show. I think that if you can go through a show and not be sick of the score, it's a good show.

Would 4 make a good movie?
I liked the movie.(don't shoot)

What's your favorite song from 10?
I Know Things Now, Agony, or On the Steps of the Palace(orignal)

Well, I have never heard their other works, but I REALLY like this score.

Not in the slightest, barely remember it. I just remember that I loved it.

um... Fiddler on the Roof, or professionally, Wicked in L.A.

I haven't seen one.

That's like picking one of your childern is your favorite. But I have no childern so.... right now it is "Light" from Next To Normal, it has special meaning right now.

How did you hear about 7?
I heard lots of buzz about the 2009 Patti revival and from the 2008 Tonys. I figured that instead of bothering to go see it live, I could just watch the movie. So I rented the TV Bette Midler movie of it and was completely surprised at how good it was. I could not believe that after all the musical movies I?ve seen, one could surpass all my favorites. I took my sister and went to see it on Broadway immediately, and 4 more times after that before it closed. The brilliance of the revival multiplied my loved for the show exponentially. And it is still my favorite show of all time.

Would 4 make a good movie?
It already was a movie obviously, just not a musical. I think a movie musical MIGHT be able to work ala the Hairspray movie. I think it could be a big bubbly, cheesy, fun movie just like the show.

What's your favorite song from 10?
I Just Might as well as Shine Like the Sun and the title song of course!

How many times have you seen 9?
I?ve only seen the dvd of it, never live? yet.

Just a playbill from when I saw it, but I?d like the souvenir program.

My favorite composer is Sondheim, but Tom Kitt/Brian Yorkey are phenomenal! They write beautiful songs and Next to Normal is one of my favorite scores.

Probably all the ones I loved as a kid, especially The Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music. But I didn?t start going to Broadway regularly until 2008 after seeing Mary Poppins, lol.

Sondheim. Enough said. I also enjoy the works of Jason Robert Brown, Tom Kitt (as mentioned before), and Alan Menken, just to name a few.

Gypsy, but I?m not sure if that counts since he only did the lyrics. Then Into the Woods.

I love the choreography of In the Heights.

I hate the lack of originality, but some I like.

Hair?s and the opening number was pretty awesome.

I think every child in the western world with non-theatre-averse parents is born knowing about 7.

Would 4 make a good movie?
HAHAHAHA no. Well, maybe. Okay, it totally would, but non-musical fans wouldn't like it. But it doesn't need to make a good movie, thanks to PBS.

What's your favourite song from 10?
'Song on the Sand'. I cry nearly every time I hear it. I feel a little sad actually that I've heard three different men singing it, and the only one who didn't make me cry was the inestimable Clarke Peters. But the divine Philip Quast and the revelatory Denis Lawson made me weep buckets. Perhaps if I keep my fingers crossed, someone will ask Clarke Peters to play Georges and then he will make me cry. And then I'll be ridiculously creepy at the stage door at him.

Who's your favourite actor from the original cast (Broadway, London) of number 3?
Ooh, tricky! Because there was an original cast *and* an original Broadway cast, and they were both amazing, so I can pick nearly anyone, I reckon! But it's gotta be Michael Cerveris or Neil Patrick Harris, obviously!

How many times have you seen 9?
On film, countless times. On stage, just once, at the Royal Albert Hall, with Daniel Dae Kim as the King, his fine Korean abs criminally covered by his costume. D:

Who's your favourite character from 2?
Benny. :3 I mean, I love 'em all, but Benny wins.

What sort of merchandise do you have from 5?
I have three different recordings (OBC, 2005 revival, OST), two DVDs (Hearn+Lansbury, movie), and the apron. Yes, the apron. I'm Just That Cool.

Is 8 by your favorite composer/lyricist?
Haha, yes it is. XD I worship Sondheim, but I love Adam Guettel. :3

Yes. WRITE FASTER, GUETTEL.

Could you recite all of the lyrics and dialogue from 6 by memory?
Mostly. I still fall down on Alexi Darling's contact details, and I don't suppose I ever knew the dialogue, but there's not a *lot* of dialogue, so I know pretty darn most of the show.

The first musical you ever saw live (or that you at least remember)?
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Jason Donovan. All the cool kids went to see it.

The first musical you saw on Broadway?
Rent. And unlike people who are ashamed of the fact they were ever 15, I'm pleased about it and proud to admit it.

The first musical you saw off-Broadway?
Well, I've never seen an off-Broadway musical. But my first off-West End musical was The Last Five Years. (HEY, DID YOU KNOW THERE'S A WEST END AS WELL AS A BROADWAY? 8D)

The musical got you into musical theatre?
Phantom of the Opera, Rent, and Wicked. Yeah, I went about it *that* way! And now look at me with my crazy Shakespeare lovin'! Living proof that you can outgrow being a teenybopper! XD

Your favourite composer?
Adam Guettel. I <3 him.

Your favourite musical from your favourite composer?
Floyd Collins. Not only is it completely amazing, I also get extra geek cred 'cos it's pretty obscure and it's got such bizarre-for-a-musical subject matter. XD

The musical with your favourite choreography?
Having two left feet, I'm never really aware of choreography. I mean, I get excited when War Horse and Black Watch beat out things like Hairspray to the Olivier awards. XD But I do find the In the Heights choreography somewhat on the breathtaking side, if that is an acceptable enough answer. (I know there will be dancers reading this. XD)

Ever left a musical at intermission?
Yes. Kismet. I usually won't, but I'd been having SUCH a lovely day, and I wasn't clicking with it at ALL, and Michael Ball doesn't really work for me if I can see and easily identify him, and the set was terrible, and my seat was really uncomfortable, so I snuck out with the smokers and went to eat okonomiyaki instead of sticking around. Go me!

Your all-time favourite song?
NO. I CAN'T DO THAT. You can name a musical and I can give you my favourite song from that musical. Hell, you can name a composer and I'll do my best to think of one individual song from that composer. But I cannot choose ONE song above ALL OTHER songs. For one thing, it changes every freakin' day. :P

Your all-time favourite lyric?
Does anyone *not* love "look, I made a hat; where there never was a hat"? Breathtaking in its simplicity, a perfect succinct explanation of the creation of art.

Your all-time favourite line of dialogue?
There's dialogue in musicals? 8D

Are you one of those people who leave in the middle of a curtain call?
Of course not! That's rude! I'm one of those people who dawdles in the auditorium and applauds the band one last time after the final play-out. :3

How cruel, that it has to be a musical. I've genuinely thought about time travel, and I would genuinely go no further than 2004. I'm freakin' OBSESSED with the RSC 2004 production of Hamlet (Directed by Michael Boyd! Fights by Terry King! Cast includes Toby Stephens! Clive Wood! Sian Thomas! Forbes Masson! Richard Cordery! Greg Hicks! John Mackay! Gideon Turner!), and I wish more than anything I'd seen Journey's End in the West End (Geoffrey Streatfeild as Stanhope ffs!!!!!). But I guess a sizeable part of wanting to go back to 2004 is the amazing musical season that was going down on Broadway. Any year that presents Assassins, Avenue Q, The Boy from Oz, Caroline or Change, and Wicked is A-okay by me! I guess I'll go with Assassins. But I want it to be known that I'd rather be seeing Hamlet. :P

Your opinion on jukebox musicals?
There are three different sorts I can think of.
1. "Take a musical act, pick their best known songs, and try and weave a story around 'em".
Examples: Mamma Mia!, We Will Rock You
Opinion: um... no. No thank you. Lame lame lame lame lame.

2. "Take a musical act, pick their best known songs, and write a play that involves them singing these songs."
Examples: Jersey Boys, Buddy
Opinion: acceptable logical behaviour. I still will not pay good money to see one.

3. "Work out your musical theme, get your story, shoehorn in as many different songs as you can from as many different musical acts as you need, and just have fun."
Examples: Priscilla, Rock of Ages
Opinion: yeah, I quite like these. I'd still rather see a play, but I'll see these ones as well. :3
