The musical with your favorite choreography?
Probably the original FOLLIES, because it was absolutely masterful storytelling in movement. And you can't knock the original West Side Story.
Ever left a musical at intermission?
Oh, dear Lord, ABSOLUTELY. How else can you tell the writers and/or director that the stuff is crap?
Your all-time favorite song?
That's kind of a ridiculous question to ask people who really love music and/or lyrics.
Your all-time favorite lyric?
Well, gee. Same as above.

OK.... maybe in "How to Succeed..." the banter in "The Company Way"... referring to the company lunchroom serving haddock sandwiches. Finch: "Ummm...I must try it." Other guy: "Early in the week."
Are you one of those people who leave in the middle of a curtain call?
No. It's always nice to only stand up when there has actually been something brilliant on stage and stay seated when not.
You're given a chance to go back in time. The only catch is that all you can do is see a musical - any time, any where, any cast. As long as it actually happened.
The opening night of "Show Boat" or "Oklahoma!"...because it all came from there.
How do you feel about the more recent trend of turning popular movies into musicals? (Ex: Shrek, Legally Blonde, Lion King, etc)
I don't really care where the source material comes from; it just is sad that most of the movies-to-stage adaptations have been so pathetically desperate to cash in on titles which really weren't that stage- (or even film-) worthy in the first place. And without a new vision, why on earth do they bother? "Lion King" ain't great, but it has a point of view.
Your opinion on jukebox musicals?
It's a cop-out phrase. "Ain't Misbehavin'", "Tintypes", "Crazy For You", "My One And Only", "Sophisticated Ladies"...ALL were what you'd call jukebox musicals if you had been around when those tunes were the popular fare of the listening public. And they were wonderful. (Oh, sure, you can argue that CFY was "Girl Crazy" and MOAO was....????, but essentially, they took the tunes they wanted from a catalogue and crammed them together.) Lately....? Well, "Jersey Boys" at least had a legitimate reason to use those tunes. As for the others....well, let's just chalk most of them up to lack of imagination.
Your favorite performance from this year's Tonys?
A toss-up between the "Next to Normal" folk and Harris' hysterical performance of the "Hairspray" guy's lyrics.

No. I know its cliche, but Sondheim is my favorite...
Do you have a recording of every musical written by 1's composer?
The only Broadway musical he wrote is that one. Though apparently he's written some others that haven't gotten that far, and those I don't have.
Could you recite all of the lyrics and dialogue from 6 by memory?
A lot of it, and several of the songs. And often do. In public. I sometimes get funny looks...
The first musical you ever saw live (or that you at least remember)?
Wow, I want to say The Music Man. Some high school production mom took me to see...
The first musical you saw on Broadway?
Ack...do I have to say? Okay, Cats (under duress). The next one was Aspects of Love, so hopefully that redeems me...
The first musical you saw off-Broadway?
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.
The musical got you into musical theatre?
No specific one that I can think of. Mom had a bunch of cast albums (South Pacific, Hair, Sound of Music, etc) and I loved the movie musicals, like South Pacific, West Side Story and The Music Man. The first one I performed in was HMS Pinafore, and I was hooked on theater.
Your favorite composer?
Sondheim. No question.
Your favorite musical from your favorite composer?
Hmm...Company or Into the Woods? think I'd have to go with Into the Woods...I became very obsessed when that cast album came out...
The musical with your favorite choreography?
Hair...that was some amazing stuff...I know it takes a lot of work to make everyone look like they are doing their own thing...
Ever left a musical at intermission?
Nope, not a musical (plays, yes...no musicals). Though there was a production of 1776 at the Walnut St Theater in Philadelphia that I wish I had...
Your all-time favorite song?
WAY too many to list here...always depends on my mood.
Your all-time favorite lyric?
"Grab your dick and double click for porn, porn, porn."
Your all-time favorite line of dialogue?
HEIDI: "Now I'm embarrassed. I just met y'all and I'm way too talky."
HUNTER: "Don't apologize. If you keep talking, this show will write itself."
Are you one of those people who leave in the middle of a curtain call?
Never.
You're given a chance to go back in time. The only catch is that all you can do is see a musical - any time, any where, any cast. As long as it actually happened.
The Rink with Chita Rivera and Liza Minelli
How do you feel about the more recent trend of turning popular movies into musicals? (Ex: Shrek, Legally Blonde, Lion King, etc)
I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I think too many people use it to as a quick way to put out a musical, and don't put much effort into it. But there have been some good ones. The Producers springs to mind. And let's not forget that even La Cage aux Folles was originally a movie.
Your opinion on jukebox musicals?
These I like much less. Mamma Mia is fun, because who can listen to an ABBA song without smiling and singing along? And Jersey Boys works because it is actually the story of the group, so the songs fit in. But most are again, someone's idea to make a quick buck with little effort.

Do you have a recording of every musical written by 1's composer?
I do not! Though Kander and Ebb are geniuses who must be celebrated.
Could you recite all of the lyrics and dialogue from 6 by memory?
Not at all. I was laughing superhard the first (and last, sadly) time I saw it.

Phantom was my first Broadway musical.

Kiss of the Spiderwoman
The musical with your favorite choreography?
I think Chicago is my favorite. It's like the choreography is a living, breathing entity.
Ever left a musical at intermission?
No, but I really wanted to at 9 to 5 all three times. The first time, I had someone with me and the tickets were free. The last two, I think the seats were just comfy and I had nothing else better to do.

Sailing, A New Brain

I leave my seat to go down to the Hair dance party!
You're given a chance to go back in time. The only catch is that all you can do is see a musical - any time, any where, any cast. As long as it actually happened.
Hard one. I'd want to see Chita on her broadway debut.
How do you feel about the more recent trend of turning popular movies into musicals? (Ex: Shrek, Legally Blonde, Lion King, etc)
I don't think it's bad. I think it's bad to use a screenwriter as the book person without them having a grasp on how the two are different.
Your opinion on jukebox musicals?
Xanadu was the only one I saw, and because of it's comedy and my lack of really caring about the songs before I saw the musical.
Your favorite performance from this year's Tonys?
Definitely Hair
