To me it appears to be a lot of sparkly plastic style minus any substance - artificiality without content. Those slapping gestures don't equal "feeling," nor do random ultra-high notes equal good singing.
I don't usually, but there's something so odd and individualistic and weird and unusual and true-to-the-weirdness-that-is-himself about this kid that I end of sort-of respecting him for upholding his integrity.
And the more people dislike him, the more I feel like I like him.
I see what you mean, but, personally, I don't see anything more "individualistic" (individual?) or "weird" than we see from the other fey teens found on American Idol, The Voice, The X Factor, etc.
What he does, he definitely does to the extreme; but it's hardly anything that hasn't been seen before.
Wow... I normally agree with you, PalJoey, but that was excruciating. And I love "What Kind Of Fool Am I?". I agree with Jordan. The best part was when he stopped singing.
Kinda reminds me of that painful Broadway album Debbie Gibson put out.

I have mixed thoughts. First, I think it's a beautiful voice. Second, is that a girl or a boy? third, what's with the headshot taking up most of the frame? (I guess it's a three-in-one video, audition for song, acting, and modeling).
A little too much histrionics.
But I'm going to listen to it again, I like the voice!
