I hope Cynthia wins it as well.

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

Lauper has been snubbed by every award this year. So it's not that big of a surprise.

I think Carolee took the "up in the air" nomination that Spanger, and others were gunning for.

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

Cyndi was probably snubbed because of the poor reception of 3PO. Even though Lestat was widely panned, Carolee is a known and well-loved, seasoned musical theatre performer. Tony nominators are going to go for one of their own in this instance, I think.

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

Is it just me or does Chita's nom throw an interesting wrench into things? The old school diva battle could split the vote and tip the scales to La Chanze or Kelli.

when ducks grow thumbs then maybe my opinion will change.

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

This may just be me: but. I was a litle underwhelmed by Chita's portrayl of Chita. Some character choices she made really boggled my mind.

Is someone playing themselves really one of the best actresses of the season?

So where's this new replacement cast member? No nominees or announcement of a winner?

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

I saw that, too, WithoutATrace. Interesting...

I'm a little late, but YAY MANO!

Ohk, it's out of my system, I promise.

Featured Actress in a Musical is interesting. Good for Carolee, I love her, but wow, there were so many people gunning for those five slots. Too bad one of the ladies from Sweeney didn't get in. Mano, take it home for the team!

Too bad Sweeney didn't get any design nominations either. O well, it better take home Orchestrations!

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

Carolee took the "Up in the Air" nomination? The woman is fantastic in that show. Cydi (who I thought was one of the best parts of TPO) in no way deserved it over Carolee. If you want someone out, get rid of Withers-Mendes whose appeal in The Color Purple is completely beyond me as when I saw it she bothered me the whole time and I thought she was the most underwhelming performer ever.
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

Why not have an actress playing herself...they've done stranger things in the past, haven't they? Now, I didn't see it, but what "acting" was there for any of slew of nominees a few years ago for Swing?? Wasn't Laura Benanti like "Singer #3"??

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

Wrong thread for this, but my guess is the TCP women will cancel each other out. Carolee could easily take this award. Or my personal pick, Beth Leavel.

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

That's what they said about Wicked with Idina and Kristin.

We'll see.

I don't care anymore.

#163

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

Idina fell into the "annointing a new diva" category (see Heather Headley for reference).
Kristen never had a real shot.

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

I'm a little surprised Brian F. O'Byrne didn't get a nod for "Shining City". Of course, he gets a nod every year, perhaps they thought they would focus on someone new?

Dominic Cooper should be on this list!!!

I'm rooting for Lachanze and the Jersey Boys

The press release says that no replacement Tony will be given out this year.

Could Woman in White win best score?

I think it easily takes down Wedding Singer and Color Purple, but I have not seen Drowsy yet.

Could ALW take this one home?
#169

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

Yes, it's highly possible ALW will win. It's certainly the best score out of those nominated.

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

Interesting that COLOR PURPLE has come back strong with only two noms behind DROWSY. CP is the real spoiler here.

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

Jeez after all that and they decide nobody is worthy of the replacement Tony. Or did they just realize that basically special Tony rules were already on the books and could indeed be rewarded to replacements and this new catagory was completely unnecessary...

re: 2006 Tony Award Nominations

I don't know, Color Purple is pretty generic as well.

When my family heard Push the Button and The Color Purple from the sampler CD, the general feeling was "yup, that's what i thought".

DROWSY GOT 13! DROWSY GOT 13!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im SOOOOOOO happy for that show!

Anyone else surprised by Lynch's nomination?
