Glad to see the Finian's love. Hope to see more of it tomorrow!
I love Bobby too, but they should have nominated him for YANK! and let Robert Petkoff have a nomination for RAGTIME.
I'm thrilled for Bobby and for RAGTIME and YANK! My favorite moments of the season were these two shows along with The Scottsboro Boys. I do think that it may be different tomorrow. Didn't 9 to 5 get the most nominations last year? Look what happened to that show.
Yes, tomorrow's list will be drastically different... but I hope they remember Ragtime and Finian's like the Drama Desks did!

remind me why Fela isn't nominated for anything?
It was eligible last year since it was off-Broadway in the 2008-2009 season.

MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET nominated for best Musical Revue....

I'm shocked that Steven Hoggett was not nominated for American Idiot's choreography.
Congrats to Everyday Rapture! 5 nominations with best musical & leading actress amongst them.
This is probably stupid for asking, but was Sondheim on Sondheim not nominated for other awards because it's classified as a Musical Revue?
That could be possible, but I don't see why it would be ineligible for design awards or orchestrations.
Million Dollar Quartet as a revue... haha.

I am a little surprised at no Denzel.
question:
Viola is now able to be nominated in Best Actress for Fences for the Tony's, but when final noms come out can she still be put in featured? (as she is here)
No, she's in consideration to be nominated for Best Actress. The Drama Desk Awards don't always follow the same eligibility rules as the Tonys. (for example: Joanna Gleason won the Drama Desk for Best Featured Actress AND the Tony Award for Best Actress for the Baker's Wife in Into the Woods)

And it isn't like the Oscars, where studios petition for performances to be considered in one category, but the Academy votes however they wish. With the Tonys, the placement is decided in advance.
Bless 'em for going outside the box. Nice work all around.
I just compared the Tony nominated to the Drama Desk nominations (previous years) For the most part, they match pretty well up. Sure there are one or two shows that get lots of Drama Desk nominations and little-to-none Tony noms (9to5, Young Frankenstein) but I thought most of them were pretty spot on. I am quite excited to see if this years Drama Desk nominatinos were a good foreshadowing of what's to come tomorrow!
Very pleased to see the best new musical of the season get its due. Hopefully, it wins a few on awards night.

Congratulations to Ragtime, The Scottsboro Boys and all the nominated shows!!! I am so thrilled for Bobby Steggert. I worked with him in Camelot and he is one of the most brilliant, brave and intelligent actors on broadway right now. I am so glad he is getting the recognition he deserves. I think he is a sure thing for a Tony nom. now.
If I remember correctly, the Drama Desk awards are just like the Golden Globes. The Golden Globes tend to be the "Honorable Mention" award...which means...these movies are good but they will not get an Oscar Nomination...so we have to give them something. Except for a few, I always felt that the Drama Desk awards, were the "Honorable Mention" awards (even though it is a good award to have), but I see a lot of this shows come Tony nomination time, to be snub. Just they way I have seen it over the years. Please prove me wrong when the Tony nominations are announced.
^maybe in some things. some actors win both and they have different categories too. musical/comedy and drama movies are separate. but the whole supporting actor in a sitcom or comedy/musical thing all being the same category is so silly. i don't always see them as the "honourable mention" as the nominees are very similar. i know what you mean about some winners though. sometimes the GG's can be a great pre cursor and have been lately with winners in both. sometimes people like Jim Carrey win the Globe and not the oscar. what about Madonna? did she win the Golden Globe (or get nominated) and not a nod at the Oscars?
