Just to throw an idea out there: what about "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson"? It received pretty comparable (if not better) reviews that Scottsboro, infact, Scottsboro opened and closed within BBAJ's relatively short run. It was on numerous Best Of- lists, I actually think it has a chance. Thoughts?
My prediction is Clybourne Park winning, with The Scottsboro Boys and Time Stands Still as finalists. Though I was shocked how last years panned out, so I also wouldn't be surprised if none of those make the cut either.

CONGRATULATIONS, BRUCE NORRIS!
Wasn't "A Free Man of Color" almost universally panned?
Congratulations to Bruce Norris - very well deserved!
Admittedly a little shocked at the other two finalists - especially Guare - but thrilled that Clybourne Park triumphed.
Like the others who just posted, thrilled with the winner, but I can't believe John Guare was a finalist for Free Man of Color. Oy! Still. They picked the right play in the end!

Wow. That idiotic VIBRATOR PLAY making the final cut was bad enough, but there's just no excuse for bloated crap like FREE MAN OF COLOR getting serious consideration like that.
Saw that coming.
Read the "qualifications" of a pulitzer for drama and you'll see why FREE MAN was nominated. Has nothing to do with how well it is reviewed, or acclaimed critically. The play was actually an epic undertaking.

Meh. Scottsboro deserved at least a nomination.
Again, the whole thing is a load of rubbish. Only the relative anonymity of the judges preserves the esteem this award is held in. People are idiots. All people - even Pulitzer Prize judges!
John Guare most certainly DID deserve a nomination and I am so happy for him. Besides being a lovely person, he is an American legend and wonderful playwright. I read the FMOC script before seeing the production, and the script is incredibly rich with precise historic information and humorous anecdotes. The script should not be judged on the final performance product. Guatemala shouldn't be punished because Lincoln Center f*cked over his genius material.

It's not rubbish; it is, like any other contest, subjective. But on the bright side, this year, they got it right. I saw Clybourne Park at Playwrights Horizons and it was excellent...and quintessentially American as well! Congrats to Bruce Norris!
John Guare is a great writer, but A FREE MAN OF COLOR was a pompous piece of crap. This makes me even sadder to have missed CLYBOURNE PARK, though. Congrats to Mr. Norris!

It's a shame Socttsboro didn't at least get something. It's perfect Pulitzer subject matter.
