Julie Taymor will be considered eligible in the Best Direction of a Musical category for Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark.
Oh, the irony!
Julie Taymor is not billed as director in the Spider-Man Playbill credits. In fact, nobody is billed as director.

It list Follies as being one of the decisions, but doesn't mention what that decision was, unless that's included in the "consistent with the opening night credits" part?

Why was there even a question of Tyne Daly's eligibility? Surely they weren't going to declare MASTER CLASS a musical!
Maxwell and Burstein are officially leading. We can stop those silly featured discussions now.
Re: Follies, the only decision to be made was that none of the 4 above the title leads would be considered supporting, so they didn't have to announce anything.
Regarding Tyne Daly, yes it's obvious she would be eligible as lead actress in a play, but her name was billed below the title so they have to make it official.
Tyne Daly was billed as a part of the ensemble and not a lead. She is singled out by the Tonys as a lead and will possibly be nominated that way.
Burstein as Leading?
I think he would fare better in the Featured category, but that's the name of the game.
I wish him the best of luck and hope he does finally win.
quizking-I hope he wins, too. He really deserves it for an incredible performance.

Thank you, dry2olives and CurtisB, for answering my question.

He might "fare better," but I doubt he'd feel good about victory via category theft. He has a reputation for being a total mensch.
It's early but I would think he might have a very good chance of winning a leading tony for Follies.
I think if FOLLIES closes in January there might be too much competition for him to win (e.g. Ricky Martin from EVITA, Jeremy in NEWSIES, Harry in ON A CLEAR DAY, Norm in PORGY AND BESS, someone in GHOST, Mandy in PATTI AND MANY [j/ks he's got no chance]).....I know it is a cliché that people claim Tony voters have short memories but it seems true..
qolbinau-I thought the same thing.
Normally, I'd agree with you Golbineau, but between its sheer star power, casting changes past and possible replacements to come, Brantley's change of heart, Bernadette's costume changes, the montage, the pre-set, and a million other things currently culminating with Jan's run in with the van, but almost certainly to be eclipsed shortly with something else, few if any in the mix have stopped talking about Follies for more than an hour (least of all here in the august realms of bww). I think few are likely to forget this show come Tony time, least of all Danny!
Forgetting Follies would be tantamount to forgetting Hiroshima.

Someone needs to start a "Get Danny Burstein a Tony!" thread...just sayin'
Also...I, for one, would love to hear an acceptance speech by Julie Taymor. youtube gold - right there.
Of all those leading men listed above (or Broderick, who you forgot) I only see Lewis being any competition for Danny.
But we haven't seen the lot of them yet...
The main point was that those shows would be open and have buzz and FOLLIES would have been closed for 6 months.
Taymor for best director? Now that's just plain funny.
So does this mean that all SpiderMan decisions will be based on the "original" production? I assume if the book would be eligible it would only be Taymor & Berger then?
If Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa was listed in the Playbill on June 14 (and I assume he was), then he is eligible for Best Book along with Taymor and Berger.

Hopefully she'll get nominated.
Does choreography include the flying sequences?
If so, they really should win
and can someone please tell me, I never understood the two times I saw the show, but what are the furies doing during Think Again??? bouncing around on a rope? I can't understand it :/

I don't think ANYONE has to worry about Ricky Martin stealing their Tony.
Opps.

Because it will be in Jan Maxwell's bag.
