Happy for Jessie but think was one of my least favorite recordings. There are like 4 songs you can listen to fully as songs, without book lines added. That's not what I want when I'm listening to the album.
^I didn't like it that much at first (the interrupting of the songs) because I adore Jessie Muellers voice and only wanted to hear her, but ever since I saw the show it transports me back to how much I loved it. And not to mention I'm in love with Carole King so if I ever want to hear the full version I just switch to her albums.
So does that mean that Idina Menzel has two Grammys now since she was a principle soloist on both wins?
No.
Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media s presented to the artist or artists of a majority of tracks and/or the producer or producers of a majority of tracks on the album. In this case, that was Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Robert Lopez, Tom MacDougall and Chris Montan.
Best Song Written for Visual Media is presented only to the writer(s) of the song.
Woo-hoo! So happy for BEAUTIFUL. What a stunning album! Every time I listen to it I am marveled by the great work everyone did on the recording. The performances are note-perfect, with Mueller managing an impressive feat of honoring King's renditions while adding her personal touch to the songs, the sound quality is pristine, and the songs are so carefully selected and smartly edited down. Most importantly, it perfectly captures as much as possible the electricity that is filling the Stephen Sondheim theatre every night. Congrats to everyone involved, such a deserved win.

We are so accustomed to having the show that won the Tony for Best Musical also winning the Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album. When was the last time another show won the Grammy but didn't win the Tony? To me, Beautiful was the best album and show here, so totally agree with the Grammy. Anyone know how often and when this has happened?

So happy that Hedwig didn't win. Try again NPH. LOL.
"When was the last time another show won the Grammy but didn't win the Tony?"
That would be American Idiot back in 2011.

No, it almost always goes to the best-selling album. The last one that won the Grammy but didn't win Best Musical was American Idiot. It happens more often than you'd think. The biggest misstep was when Riverdance won the Grammy over Rent in 1997. That was just embarrassing. Riverdance was a huge novelty on tour, but it didn't even play Broadway until 2000. It was just a big seller from the tour and TV commercials.
Grammy Award For Best Musical Theater Album
The Grammy goes to the Best Musical Tony winner about half of the time. When it doesn't, the Tony win that correlates to the Grammy most often is Best Actress. That was true this year, as well as for "Wicked" and "Dreamgirls," to name just two other examples. There have been odd wins, but they are usually explained by some connection to the recording industry, or to huge popularity.

I just watched the video of them at the Grammys and omg it's so awkward. Was Silber really really nervous to perform in front of that audience? Because she shouldn't have been! Most of them can't sing nearly as well as she can but dayum it was not good. Is it the orchestra's fault?

Beautiful- A well deserved win and most listenable cast album of those
nominated IMO.
I liked A Gentlemans guide a LOT as a live show
-dont listen to the cast album or specific songs much
Other grammy wins by non best musical winners in recent years
include:
American Idiot 2011
West Side story 2010
Wicked 2005
Gypsy 2004
Aida 2001
Annie Get your gun 2000
so including Beautiful, seven times out of last 15 years, the best musical winner
did not win grammy
I love the Aida cast album and its one of my all time favorites
Heather Headley, Adam Pascal and Sherrie Rene Scott
are extraordinary
Check it out if you havent heard this cast album
