^That certainly didn't happen with How to Succeed as that lost to The Book of Mormon.
I think it's going to Beautiful as Grammy voters have recognized people from the music industry in this category before (Elton John/Aida, Four Seasons/Jersey Boys, Green Day/American Idiot, Cyndi Lauper/Kinky Boots).

I fully expect a BEAUTIFUL win. Which is fine by me, a fantastic recording. Plus I'd love for Jessie Mueller to have a Grammy.
But Neil Patrick Harris inching close to EGOT is also exciting!

For those who haven't yet heard this WEST SIDE STORY recording (like myself) I found it on Spotify tonight. Link follows. The bits I've listened to so far do sound truly spectacular. Definitely gonna give this a full listen tomorrow.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

Have to agree with the rationale behind a Beautiful grammy win and would be delighted to see it happen:
great songs
great show
great performances
carole king is beloved by both LA and NY music scene
Was sooo lucky enough to see the preview in SF and go to the fabulous cast party, and visit with all the leads, several producers, the director, and Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, who I got to thank for writing-"You've lost that lovin feeling".
Told Jessie I thought she would win the Tony (she blushed and said "that would be something...")
..it was a super fun night with great food and open bar, went til about 1am...
other personal fav cast albums that deserve nominations are
bridges
violet
alladin
If/Then is spotty but will likely get nominated on the Idina bandwagon
Lady day at emersons-loved seeing audra but if listening would rather listen to billie; dark horse possible because of audreas extraordinary performance
the rest i dont think are in the running

I totally agree with jv92. The Grammys actually award for merit? Who knew? I thought they were just like the other awards groups. Some day hopefully we will be mature enough to do without these silly awards that serve no purpose.

Tonight's the night! This is the only award I care about (if Hedwig wins, NPH just needs an Oscar for his EGOT), and I know it won't be on the telecast. Anyone know what time we should know the winner?

I have all the cast recordings and my least favorite is 'A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder'. I will say that 'Beautiful: The Carole Musical' has been played the most since it first came out. Even though I LOVE 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch' the most out of the shows nominated, I still listen to the original cast recording over NPH. I was right last year, so Beautiful for the win! (please)

^^
Even if Hedwig wins, that wouldn't be considered his Grammy. If that's the case, Idina Menzel is also a Grammy winner.

The rules were changed a few years ago so that "principal soloists" receive the Musical Theater Album Grammy as well as the producers (and writers, if it's a new show). If Hedwig wins, Harris and Lena Hall will be winners as well.

I really wish they would consider off broadway cast recordings. Fun Home has such a fantastic recording, but I guess it'll get considered next year after the broadway transfer.

Fun Home will not be considered next year because the recording was released during eligibility for the current Grammy Awards, I believe.

Stephen Trask, NPH, and Lena Hall are all at the ceremony. Are any of the other nominees there?
ETA: Justin Craig, too.

Congrats to Beautiful! I had a feeling this one would win it all along.
Due to this award, I imagine more actors and actresses will become EGOT winners over the next decade or so.

When it comes to this award, I feel like the voters look at the cover art and just see what they recognize, which meant it was Carole King vs. NPH this year.
