2018 Shakespeare in the Park

I saw this last night, and WOW. This is a truly stellar production in every single way. It is elegant, simple, beautiful, and absolutely riveting. This some of the finest acting I have ever seen out of the Shakespeare plays I have seen. Chukwudi Iwuji's Othello is delivering a force of nature. Heather Lind's Desdemona was flawless. Her delivery of The Willow Song in Act IV gave me serious chills. She gently sang the song with tears glimmering in her eyes as the wind rustled the tree branches, the breeze billowed the curtains in the arches, and the stunning instrumental music played. It was one of those amazing moments that you only can only experience at a Shakespeare in the Park production. I can not recommend this highly enough. Get to the Delacorte before this closes!

Hi everyone! I’m going to attempt to get tickets via the line in Central Park. Does anyone have a recommendation as to what time I should arrive by to get tickets? Has shows been selling out? How is the standby line? Thanks

I literally keep going back to the park for this show for Heather Lind’s Willow Song. That scene is so beautifully staged. I look forward to that scene the most.

This is a very straightforward production of Othello but the direction is still very strong, and the three hours just fly by. Overall it's a wonderful production with strong acting, especially from Heather Lind and Alison Wright.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

No, it's only 90 minutes!

I wanted to like this one, and I have a lot of respect for the community work surrounding the production, but I just couldn't get into it. It feels too schmaltzy and dumbed down. Because it's part of the Public Works program, they try desperately to highlight themes of community, welcoming, inclusion, etc., which is all well and good, but it kind of clashes with the play, which isn't really about those things IMO. I mean you could make a case for it, maybe, but it feels so forced here. There are some fun moments, and a few songs that insightfully bring out new shades of meaning in the stories and characters, but for the most part this just feels like a hokey mess.

Thanks for your link. Unfortunately it confirms my reservations about the production. Not really looking to see children perform Shakespeare in the Park. Othello was so wonderful with a professional cast that I think this will pale in comparison.

I saw Twelfth Night last weekend and I thought it was really cute and fun. Nikki M. James and Andrew Kober are a delight. Totally with the KtLikesToRead thread.

I don't think the kids are prominent enough to bother you even if you're not into kid performers. It's not like they're the leads.

How early are people getting to the park for Twelfth Night? I’m guessing 11:15 is to late, so I should go directly to The Public and enter their in person lottery and just spend the day on the cancellation line in Central Park if I don’t win. Please provide advice if you can, because I would really love to see this production tonight

I recently caught this. What a mess. I couldn't tell if I was watching Shakespeare or Sesame Street Live. Not one of their better shows.

Saw Twelfth Night tonight and loved it! What a great show and production. I usually prefer more straight forward Shakespeare performances at the Delacorte (like this year's Othello) but I loved this. I thought it was fun, accessible and very enjoyable. It had a sort of Great Comet vibe too it in some ways. It was also interesting they had some sign language throughout much of the show, similar to what they did with The Runaways, the gala performance this year, which I also caught (which was not my favorite).

I would definitely recommend it - my friend I was with also enjoyed it and I heard many positive comments across the audience. The understudy for Viola was on tonight and she did a great job. We also really liked Shania Taub in her role as the fool/narrator. All in all, a great summer at the Delacorte.

The difference isn't that noticeable. Most of the time, if a character has lines, its played by the same person all nights. The only exceptions I think are the Priestess and the two signers who perform as 'backup' in "Is This Not Love?" (the police officers might also change)

Otherwise the changes are in the ensemble and some featured people (Officers...Postal Employee...)

As for schedule...Blue is on Wed/Fri/Sun and the Red is on Tues/Thur/Sat

Twelfth Night is an absolute joy. Is it high quality shakespeare? No. Is it a bit messy to follow if you’re not familiar with the play? Yes. Is it a wild good time? Yes! Thumbs up. I don’t think this show thinks it is any more than it is, and really dives into the wildness of Twelfth Night. It lets you just sit back and enjoy.

Nikki was out tonight, but her understudy is outstanding. Unfortunately the insert fell out of my playbill and I wasn’t able to catch her name! If anyone knows, please post so I can keep her on my watch list.

Shaina Taub’s music and performance was the highlight to me. If there really is a cast recording in the works, i’ll be listening to some of those songs over and over and over. I seriously hope she brings some of this to Devil Wears Prada, because she is exactly the kind of mind they need for that show.

Btw, the line today was short. I think some people were scared off by potential rain. Luckily it didn’t start raining until the show ended. I bet you can show up right at noon and grab tickets.
