The nominees will be announced in about fifteen minutes. Any guesses for musical theatre album or any familiar actors/performers with the potential to be nominated?
I don't feel like offering predictions, because there's a lot that I haven't listened to, especially a lot of these jukebox musicals that released albums. But my personal picks would probably be:
AMÉLIE Audrey Brisson, Chris Jared, Caolan McCarthy & Jez Unwin, principal soloists; Michael Fentiman, Sean Patrick Flahaven, Barnaby Race & Nathan Tysen, producers; Nathan Tysen, lyricist; Daniel Messe, composer & lyricist (Original London Cast)
AMERICAN UTOPIA ON BROADWAY David Byrne, principal soloist; David Byrne, producer (David Byrne, composer & lyricist) (Original Cast)
JAGGED LITTLE PILL Kathryn Gallagher, Celia Rose Gooding, Lauren Patten & Elizabeth Stanley, principal soloists; Neal Avron, Pete Ganbarg, Tom Kitt, Michael Parker, Craig Rosen & Vivek J. Tiwary, producers (Glen Ballard & Alanis Morissette, lyricists) (Original Broadway Cast)
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS Tammy Blanchard, Jonathan Groff & Tom Alan Robbins, principal soloists; Will Van Dyke, Michael Mayer, Alan Menken & Frank Wolf, producers (Alan Menken, composer; Howard Ashman, lyricist) (The New Off-Broadway Cast)
THE PRINCE OF EGYPT Christine Allado, Luke Brady, Alexia Khadime & Liam Tamne, principal soloists; Dominick Amendum & Stephen Schwartz, producers; Stephen Schwartz, composer & lyricist (Original Cast)
SOFT POWER Francis Jue, Austin Ku, Alyse Alan Louis & Conrad Ricamora, principal soloists; Matt Stine, producer; David Henry Hwang, lyricist; Jeanine Tesori, composer & lyricist (Original Cast)
I’m shocked to find A Strange Loop missing. Also, six nominees means there must have been a tie for fifth.
I'm surprised Christian Borle wasn't included as a principal soloist for Little Shop. I'm pleasantly surprised by this category - in a year without a lot of theatre, it's easy to forget how incredible the Broadway and Off-Broadway landscape was in late 2019 and even in the first few months of 2020.

I’m very happy to see Soft Power on the list. I was afraid it wouldn’t get into a field with bigger names available to check off. Even if you thought the show was odd, the score as preserved here is really lovely.
I haven’t listened to all of Amelie, but from what I’ve heard, the London version is almost unrecognizable from the Broadway version, and mostly for the better.
The real question is do Grammy insiders Jagged Little Pill and American Utopia cancel each other out and make way for a surprise. If not I would expect David Byrne to take this.
I expect this to be between American Utopia (bolstered by the well-received HBO Max filmed version) and Jagged Little Pill (a former Album of the Year winner). It would be exciting to see the other albums be competitive though.
