I wonder if Dame Angela Lansbury gets casting approval for her Broadway appearances. Perhaps she did with Mame or other star vehicles, but I tend to doubt it.
@Zion24, for whatever reason, you are not getting my points and/or you are misreading them. I don't recall this ever happening with you before (certainly not on this large a scale!). I don't think it is willful on your part, and I am happy to accept the fact that I am not communicating with you effectively on this. As I said, I don't think most of what I said is especially controversial but you can see what even a brief response looks like in this thread. I am moving on, and hoping the next time our paths cross it is less complicated.

Well, given that Rainn Wilson is more famous than Oak and Mandy Patinkin combined, why not? :)"
THAT is not even remotely true.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

i wasn’t even going to respond to that. Not to mention the fact that a majority of Wilson fans are probably more accurately described as Dwight Schrute fans (and this is from a certified “Office” stan). Doesn’t seem like the type of crowd to buy tickets to a War and Peace adaptation. Certainly not enough to save a show from closing

It's neither here nor there at this point, but what does his singing résumé look like? Just curious...

I don't think Dwight Schrute fan base is homogenous as you think it is. And yes, Rainn Wilson is far more recognizable and famous than an actor who once rode the Hamilton peak popularity wave and another much older theater actor whose career was at its peak in the 80s-90s.
Unfortunately, even if Rainn had exceptional singing abilities (only heard his depiction of Country roads) or all Mandy Patinkin's fans showed up, as you said, the show was doomed.
