I find it ridiculous that some of you are saying Donna Murphy may not get a nomination just because of an incident that happened years ago. I agree with whoever said that if Legally Blonde is not nominated for best musical neither will Ms.Bundy. Kristin Chenoweth got fabulous reviews and will probably be nominated even though her show is closed.
That fact that chenoweth's show is closed has NO effect on her chance for a nomination.
The nomination committe isn't 750 people. It's a small group of theatre snobs who see EVERYTHING. So, they all SAW it. It's not a matter of flying people in from Texas to see it.

I don't understand why we need a 92nd thread rehashing the same topic....it's not like it ever changes.

See my first post!
Edit: I know there's a thread on contenders https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.cfm?boardname=bway&thread=910789#2929790 , but it's like 26 pages and this thread deals with just that specific fifth slot
I'm sorry but I most certainly think Laura Bell Bundy will be up before Debra Monk. Debra's part is arguably Featured, whereas Laura is never off the stage. Its a character people will fall in love with, and she will be nominated, maybe moreso based on the part than her overall performance (which was a delight as well.)
Kristin will get up, she is Kristin Chenoweth and her reviews were unreal.
Stephanie J. Block is deserving, but the show she is in kills her chance.
Lea Michele suffers the same as thing as Debra.. they should be in featured.
Donna Murphy is doing GENIUS work in LoveMusik, and she will be rewarded with a nomination, but this is Christine's statue.

I wish they'd fly me in, though.

Carolee Carmello's role got nominated in Lestat when it was thought the show she was in killed her chance.

But Carmello was in the Featured category, not Lead and it was a much less competitive field than this one.
I don't know about Featured being less competitive with Mary Louise Wilson in the running.
Does anyone think Barbara Walsh will ever come into the discussion? I haven't seen her performance, but she seems very absent in the discussions of Tony nominees.

Re-read my post.
I said that the Featured category (LAST YEAR when Carmello was nominated) WAS a less competitive field than the Lead category is THIS YEAR for Block.
"Debra Monk should not be nominated for her performance. Her part is tiny, and when she was onstage everything she did fell flat. I found her extremely bad."
Part is tiny? Fell flat? Extremely bad? Are we supposed to take anything you say seriously now?
Margo, I was referring to an early post concerning Debra Monk. Maybe I was pushing it, but I can try.
getting a little off-topic, who ARE going to be the other nominees besides Wilson and Walsh?
Erin Davie could possibly get into the featured spot.

Rath, I am really sorry, but I was trying to be as objective as possible when I saw Curtains. I LOVE Monk. I have seen her in other stuff and have liked her then. Most recently, I saw her as Mama Morton in Chicago and thought she was fantastic. But, that being said, I did not enjoy her in this role in Curtains. I thought her comic timing was off and that her songs were not impressive. I actually rather hated the show overall, finding Ziemba and Danieley its only highlights. Monk wasn't the worst thing though...Jill Paice *cough cough*.

I'm still rooting for Mary Birdsong or Nicole Parker for featured, which is a longshot but just as much of a possibility as Charlotte D'Amboise
Just saw Curtains tonight. Monk is quite good and really sells her number "It's a Business" (and what a first line she has!) The part is far from tiny, but it's far from the female lead. It's definitely a major supporting role in a show that primarily surrounds David Hyde Pierce. I'd rather see Monk in the Featured Category but it's too late now.
And speaking of Featured, in addition to Wilson I think that Karen Ziemba will get a nod. She does some very commendable work in Curtains.
I think Orfeh totally deserves the nom.
I believe Linda Balgord will get a supporting nom, she is wonderful.

Barbara Walsh

Orfeh
did I miss anyone, besides Rebecca Luker?
Oh there are numerous women who aren't there who could slip up. But I'd say that the first three are safe bets (same with Orfeh).
Havent seen LB yet, but so far my pics for F. Actress would be:
Mary Louise Wilson
Barbara Walsh
Karen Ziemba
Linda Balgord
Rebecca Luker

OK, fine so I was exaggerating a bit. When I said the part was tiny, I mean in comparison with the other women who are being considered for the leading category. Monk doesn't carry the show the way Ebersole, McDonald, Bundy, Block, Brown, and Chenoweth do. Like someone said earlier, Monk is comparable to Lea Michele here (actually, I think Wendla is an even larger part than Carmen). As for Monk being good or bad...well that's a matter of opinion I guess. Like I said, I was trying to be as objective as possible, and the day I saw Curtains her numbers all fell flat.
