Wow! 700 Sundays is making some serious money. Its up there with Wicked and Lion King. In a theater half the size of both of those, is anyone else amazed at the amount of money its made. Is the show really that good?
Regardless of whether the show is really that good or not, it's Billy Crystal in a limited engagement. It's a gold mine to begin with.
But to answer your question, YES, the show really is that good. It's one of the best things I've seen in all my years of theatre.
No, as a matter of fact, its not.
It starts off both interesting and entertaining. Billy Crystal knows how to keep your interest. Then, the end, the way he spins it, instead of it being the rest of his life story he tells it in such a way that he comes across as if saying "I know, my life had sad times, feel bad for me." In what should feel like a tribute to the people in his life which he speaks about, it ends up feeling like he's up there just because he likes getting people to say "Oh poor Billy" or "Wow you are SO wonderful." Honestly, I thought it was disappointing and hardly worth attending which is sad because I enjoy Mr. Crystal.
This isn't to say I didn't like any aspect of it, but I felt like it seriously deteriorated as time went on.
Well, as a matter of fact, it's an opinion.
What makes yours more valid than mine? Absolutely nothing.
You're the only person I've ever heard say a negative thing about the show - so maybe, as a matter of fact, you're in the minority. And also, as a matter of fact, why do you seem so bitter about this? As a matter of fact?
Well, considering I was typing my post when you posted yours, I obviously wasn't reading yours when I wrote it so I'd appreciate it if you didn't personally attack me when I did not personally attack you, thanks.

Does anyone remember seeing his man-breasts in one of the medleys of movie parodies he used to do for the Academy Awards?? How uncomfortable was THAT??!
Can we all just stop fighting, at least for a minute, and agree that Shoshana is the best thing that's ever happened to me?
Agree, then feel free to continue the hair-pulling.
Another thing to consider, the production cost is probably a fraction of Lion King and Wicked's.

I'm feeling daring, I would say 700 Sundays' production cost is DEFINITELY a fraction of the cost of The Lion King's or Wicked's.

Which ends up being...a fraction nonetheless.

Yeah. I'm just amazed its out selling most musicals on B'way. I wish he'd tour.
I'm not suprised at all. Billy Crystal is a household name. He's having a limited engagement run on Broadway. It's going to be a hit from his name alone.

Plus, he sells drugs out of the stage door after the crowds die down; it's not the best stuff - I mean, I've definitely had better - but it's Billy Crystal Meth! With a gimmick like that, of course he's making a fortune!
I went last night and did standing room. I love Billy Crystal.
He has always been a favorite but to be honest I was bored.
The first half was wonderful. I especially loved his farting noise effects grandpa. That was HYSTERICAL.
I FOUND IT heartwarming, but the second half dragged on and on.
Standing 2 hours and 50 minutes was tough. I heard it went till 11.20. I had to sit down my ankle was throbbing. (I walked out of the last half hour, and I would have stayed if my ankle did not kill and the stupid usher would not let us sit, watch out for the Nazi ushers)
The worst thing about the show was there were several empty seats and the ushers would not let us sit. That is just pure evil.
I would see Billy Crystal. It is worth it, but not if you have to stand and it was the only way I could afford to see the show.
And it was sold out. When a show is sold out and there are people that don't show the ushers should let people in standing room sit. I felt like a second class citizen. Very stupid!

The show is excellent, far above the others in this Tony category.
And I agree they should let you sit if someone didn't show up! Sucks standing if you don't have to!
It is appalling! There were easily 12 seats in the Orchestra.
Why should we all stand.
Why make people stand if they don't have to.
I don't think it makes sense. I missed the end as I was in pain.
Just stupid. I hope Dame Edna takes the Tony.
I actually liked Dame Edna more! Maybe it was because of the standing room.
One thing for sure. I will never do standing room again. It sucks!

I've never done standing room, don't think I could (I'm ALMOST 50 - lol). Billy was MUCH better than Dame Edna though, but her/his show WAS a lot of fun. If the people didn't show up by the second act there's NO reason not to let you sit in the empty seats. we had two empty seats next to us at a recent show, after intermission a lady came by to sit (obviously from higher up since she had binocs), she looked at the seat number and said - "oh yes, this is the right seat" - lol. Seriously, I really don't see why they wouldn't let you sit! If I had an empty seat next to me, and went to go get you at intermission to have you sit there, would they stop me?
They did not let us sit.
I know!
The difference between Standing room and lotteries:
At Q, When you win the lottery you have the best seat in the house for $21.25 and the ushers say "Oh congratulations you're a winner, and for $21.25 you feel special.
Billy Crystal standing room: For $26.75 you are treated like livestock at a fair.
Horrible! All they needed was a stick to poke us.
PS: Someone even stole my playbill when I went to the bathroom and since I left early I could not get one.

Well, if I ever see you standing there and there's an open seat near me, I'll come get you!
Makes no sense about the lottery seats and the standing room if seats are available. Do all the theatres do it that way and not let you sit even if seats are open? What if they are still open at the beginning of the second act? People from OUTSIDE even come in and sit then (the second-acters)!!!
That's true, but the wobbling can get to you after a while!
