Funny how the name of the seller is the same as your name. I think reserves are stupid. If you want a particular amount of money for something then start the bidding at THAT price rather than have secrecy.
Based on the description it sounds like this item was obtained for free. $300 is a lot to ask for something you didn't pay for - especially with the mystery reserve.

The user has a 0 rating. I know we all start somewhere, but come on. Especially with the $299 price tag with a reserve not met (after the user found it before it was thrown out). Thanks, but no thanks.
Is the price you're asking to cover the $100+ shipping since you're offering to ship it for free

the Marriot Marquis, former home of 9 to 5 isn't for sale on ebay, then?
Funny...

So, if he/she has no feedback on ebay does that mean no one bought the Sweeney Todd marquee?
ETA: How about a photo of the marquee in your possession? Anybody can take a picture of a marquee hanging in front of a building.

Maybe he should stop snatching them and trying to sell them and leave them for someone who actually wants it. You say on the ebay ad that you want to keep it but you have no room for it. Is that because the Sweeney Todd one is taking up all your space? But I'm trying to figure out who would actually WANT a marquee.
Also, it's "myself" and "bedroom." Those are two words, not four.
You know, instead of selling it on ebay maybe he could call up BC/EFA and offer to them for Flea Market. Stephanie will be there for sure - maybe she can sign it.
I totally agree. Something like an auction piece for Broadway Cares, *I think* would be better.
No worries. My assistant Stacey just contacted eBay and reported the listing as 'seller selling stolen property'. The listing should be gone shortly.
I find it unethical to attempt to profit from something you either took or obtained for free.
Disgusting.
Amen Brody!!! Those pieces are supposed to be destroyed unless they "fall" into the hands of a theatre collector who will cherish the piece in their private collection. Those pieces are not produced to be sold. That is terrible.
I love all of you to death but why is what this person is doing wrong?
These are easily obtained for free (as are a lot of other Broadway related materials once a show closes) so anyone who gets them can do whatever they like with them. If I see a listing on Craigslist for a free 40" HDTV, go to pick it up and than in turn sell it on Craigslist myself for $500 am I in the wrong? Once something is mine (if I obtained it legally) I can do whatever I want with it. I see nothing wrong or even tacky about this person selling the marquee and letting theater lovers know they can get it if they want it.

I agree. As long as BB2 didn't steal it (he got permission from the people taking the sign down), that's okay, right? Sure, it may not be the nicest thing to do but he/she has a right to do what they want with their property - and reporting it "stolen" is just ridiculous if it wasn't actually stolen.
If you are there when they are taking the signs down, 9 out of 10 times you can get them. There is no theft involved whatsoever.
btw, about the reserve price thing... as you stated.. reserve prices make no sense.

I find this kind of ridiculous especially since you weren't there.
This person has done NOTHING wrong. NOTHING.

It's still a douchebag thing to do.
Whether or not the original poster is doing something wrong, I just question the credibility of the poster as a seller, since they have attempted to sell before, have a 0 rating and have a reserve set on an already high price.
If you really have a space issue, then you wouldn't have even bothered with obtaining another marquee. Just admit it, you go around profiting off of things people throw out. Not against the law, but definitely tacky.

Except for shilling their own eBay page on BWW...
This poster doesn't say much at all, but does seem to bring up eBay quite a bit. Look at her profile.
1. I'm not saying that this is illegal. I think asking that much money for something they got for free is a bit crazy. If they were just looking for shipping costs then fine but I mailed a marquee to Alabama once and didn't cost me $300+. And I used UPS not USPS. I don't even think USPS will take an item that large.
2. We have no proof that the item is actually in the OP's possession. A photo of the theatre doesn't cut it. For all we know he doesn't have it.
3. If he realized he didn't have room for it he should donate it to BC/EFA.
I see nothing wrong in getting something for free and selling it. Does it matter what price they put on it? They are not FORCING anyone to buy it. If someone does want it bad enough and it worth the secret reserve price to them , why the hell not?
There was a woman who found a modern art masterpiece thrown out in the trash recently , it ended up being worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Would you consider her a douche for selling it to a collector or museum?
