Does anyone have any pictures of the actual flea market itself or the crowd?

The Chita sign was still available when I left about 4PM. I finally posted some photos from today's event.

okay... right now I feel like an idiot. I went up and down the flea market and looked at all the booths (at least I thought I did) and somehow managed to miss alot of them! The only themed tables I saw were The Producers, Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Rent. The rest of the ones I saw didn't have a theme, they were just random things. I completely missed like half of the flea market. How could I have done that? I feel like such an idiot. :)

It seems like they begin selling things earlier and earlier every year, even though it doesn't begin until ten. If you're going to begin selling stuff at 8:30, have the event start at 8:30 or wait until 10 to start selling stuff. If you get there at the real opening time, the real "finds" are gone already. What's the point? I had a good time nevertheless, found some cool things without spending more than I could afford, and I got to see a lot of people I haven't seen much in a while, but it seemed unusually disorganized this year.

I agree, Em about the early sales. It's one thing to let people in early to scope things out (which is still a stretch), but I definitely think they're getting a little out of hand with the early selling. Lots of things were being snapped up before 9. I got there at like twenty past, and there were already a TON of people with sizable purchases. At least I haven't read anything terribly depressing that I missed out on...yet.

I am sad that I missed Albee though. I didn't hear that announcement. Maybe it was when we ran off for a bite to eat? I think that's shaping up to be my big disappointment of the day (there's always one).

I think that is horrible about Wicked selling fan gifts. Just horrible.

Yeah, I got there around 10:15 as well.

On another note, I had a run-in with THE craziest Anthony Rapp fan I have ever, ever seen. I was actually frightened.

oooo, do share (about the crazy fan)...if you want to.

I think it's great that actors who are fortunate to receive more gifts than they know what to do with are able to give them to such a great cause and use them to raise money for Broadway Cares instead of allowing them to collect dust in a corner or just throw them out. It also honors the work of the fans and puts it on display. I would imagine that only a certain caliber of gifts are sold.

oh. Never mind about the high caliber part then. (I wish I could have been there to see it along with the rest of the ridiculousness that goes on.) But if people are willing to pay money for that then sell away.

There was literally an ENTIRE table dedicated to JUST things that Megan Hilty had signed.. much of it OBVIOUS fan gifts... the little clay Glinda was AWFUL, but that a REALLY cute little, albeit cheaply made (laquer the thing if you are putting thinsg on it!), wodden jewelry box that was made for Megan.

I still say the the WICKED table would have made a CRAP load if they had just brought along Eden's dealer and let him set up shop.

I didn't browze it, but I was told by a worker that there was even a pair of leather pants donated by Eden.

Today was my first Flea Market. I got some great stuff today ,even though most of my time was spent at the Celebrity Table/Photo Booth. I picked up a bunch of playbills I have been looking for, a program from Cats, many cast recordings, cast signed Spelling Bee, Tarzan, and Altar Boyz playbills. I also got a signed opening night Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me playbill. The best thing I picked up was a Denim Jacket from Les Miz. I got it for $30, but what I found in it is priceless. The initials HP are on the front, and now I know who HP is. On the inside pocket, the signature : Best Wishes, Hugh Panaro. I was shocked! The jacket does not fit perfectly, but I doubt it will ever be worn again after finding this.

Here are the pictures I got at the photo booth:

Bebe Neuwirth
Carol Kane
Edie Falco
Marin Mazzie
and Mario Cantone

I also went through the autograph line at 11,1,and 2 (I was too late to get in the 12PM line by the time I got my picture with Carol Kane).

I had a blast today, and hope to be back again next year and every year.

JustABroadwaybaby2, that was most likely me you saw walking around with a Sweeney Todd t-shirt on. Compared to last year I wasn't that impressed with the flea market this year. I don't know if it was the weather that was affecting my mood or what. And I didn't find anything that interested me enough to buy, so I guess I could take solace in the fact that I still have my money.

Wow...loong day. I set my alarm for 8:40. It never went off. I woke up at 11:10. Oops. Then the friggin C train was stopped and kept stopping and ulgh. I didn't get there till after 12.

I agree about the originality of gifts, but I suppose if the good stuff is going before 10, there's no way I'm going to get that stuff when I'm there at 12.

Still, I spent ohh...quite a bit of money, mainly at the Broadway beat table:
2006 Broadway Bares DVD-$25
Standing Ovations 3-$20
2004 Easter Bonnet (Avenue Jew!)-$20
2004 Gypsy of the Year (DRS/spamalot skit among others)-$10
DRS shirt-$2

$10 at the ticket booth, and I got a CD. Ulgh. then i got to trade for I love you, you're perfect, now change tickets. Except it's this Wednesday afternoon, and I have class, and I couldn't trade those. So I hafta figure that out.

The rest was end-of-the-day discount shopping. I got the sweatshirt and towel for $10, a Les Miz program for $1, an Avenue Q Bad Idea Bears shirt for $1, a Tarzan monkey for $3, and then was told everything on one of the Phantom tables was free...so I started collecting stuff and other stuff they just started dumping in my bag. Heh. Let's see I got this cute Emerald city/MGM grand green vase, this odd pin-shapred thing with a Grey Gardens invitation in it, an arena stage mug (i actually really could use a mug so that was cool), a little pocket poker game, a mini chandelier that I can't figure out how I can get it to actually be a chandelier since it's not gonna stay on my ceiling or anything...and a coin that looked kinda cool.

Ooh then was given a free book at the Q table-Jeff and Robert's working notes for Q. Really cool, actually. Notes they have on the songs, earlier lyrics, cross-outs, etc. That was a nice gift to get.

Then when I unpacked, I saw a Festen opening night coaster in there. Not quite sure how that got in there *shrug*

Also got the free Drowsy frisbee.

$110 on the day. Oops. But because most of them were DVDs, they are things I'm gonna use and stuff, and I really did want them. Wish they weren't out of the Once On This Island concert DVDs...ah well. And of course, it all goes to charity.

Actor-wise, Deborah S. Craig was checking out and buying at all of the tables. By the end of the day, most of the Bee cast was at their table, quite a few Q people at their table...as mentioned, the Hairspray cast too. Bob and Beth were selling and signing champagne glasses at the Drowsy table. And of course I saw some of the actors there for the auction and who came for the celebrity table. I kinda regret not getting a picture with Jesse. He was being so cuddly. And they just pushed him through the crowd. Poor Anthony just got mobbed, but he ended up standing near the barricade during the auction and did a lot of signing and picture-taking. Gotta love him.

And it was great seeing everyone I saw today. It's just great being able to go to these things without any specific plans (well I did have one today, but that's besides the point) of like I'm gonna call you when I get there, or meet you at so and so...b/c I know walking around, I'll just find people I know, and walk around with them a bit, and then find others, etc.

Clumsy, I saw you a few times, and thought it might have been you.

I was walking around proudly in my DRS shirt. Disappointed there weren't more stuff from that of course. I actually found the lady who made the ferrett that I really wanted. It's in storage re: A BC/EFA Flea Market Review (For those of you that missed it)

I guess I also don't think it's so bad for the Wicked gals to sell the fan gifts. Greg Jbara did the same thing when he left Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. They're selling them for charity, so they're not profiting personally, and since they're both already gone or about to do so, they have to clean out their dressing room, and the stuff would probably have been trashed or put into storage. By selling the stuff, they're raising money for a good cause and letting others take pleasure in something that would have been put into a closet in all likelihood.

I had fun. There wasn't as much cool stuff as last year, but it was still awesome. this is what I got.

Two different DRS shirts- $2 each
one DRS poster- $1
one signed OBC poster- $10 (brought down from $20)
8 signed DRS pics - $25 (would have been $80)
pic of John Lithgow and Brian Darcy James- $2
headshot of someone- $2
Victor/Victoria pin -50 cents
Drowsy Chaperone frisbee- free
Tarzan monkey - $1 (won the football throwing contest)
signed flea market postcard by Marc Shaiman- $5

I think that was it. good day, in all.
