Even when she covered Whitney’s songs in concert, she still Ella-fied it (as in her singing style is very much patterned after Ella Fitzgerald).

Yes, she's got more than enough vocal power to handle it.
Did you not see her in the Aretha Franklin bio-series? She killed the songs.

I don't see how anyone can have heard Erivo sing "Im Here" and not think she has the vocal power to do almost anything. Particularly live, the sheer power of her voice pins you to your seat. She'd absolutely crush the Aida score, if she wanted to (and not saying that necessarily makes her right for the role).

Mostly touring as a vocalist with The Rolling Stones.

No thanks. I'm a big fan of hers, but her attendance as the LP in the PIPPIN tour was horrendous.

Based on what I saw of her in the Pippin tour, she can sing, but acting is NOT her strong suit... at all.

Cynthia's immensely talented, and I know it's a small thing, but I would love to see someone who is *not* a soprano.

The two main stars of the Netherlands production, which I think is now slated to be the premiere of the new Schele Williams-directed production (although she isn't mentioned in this article?), have been announced: Gaia Aikman as Aida and Naidjim Severina as Radames. There should be more announcements shortly.

Actually, Williams is mentioned in the article: "but the creative team led by director Schele Williams".

I'm pretty sure that the article was updated after I first read it. In any case, it's good to get confirmation that Williams is still involved.
