Just scored two tickets to Green Day's American Idiot. Anything going on with the show tonight?
van is on for johnny, and alysha is out, aspen is in. which is apparently much better than last nights reviews of lorin being in alysha's track. don't know about anyone else though.

It's not like they do "hat day" or anything.

@scraped.. where is the review from last night's performance?
just based on what people who saw the show last night on twitter said and an audio sample of TMTS on tumblr.

American Idiot is completely different without John Gallagher, and for the better. With Van Hughes on tonight, you actually feel for the character, as opposed to John, where you could care less about him. Whoever was in the Alysha role tonight was fantastic.
Barcelona: ouch.
I can't comment on any differences as I have only seen the obc (and only 1x) but I felt that way about ALL of the characters which is why I didn't care for the show. I didn't like or care about any of them.
was lorin really that terrible??
Do the cast always do an acoustic version of Good Riddance? They did it tonight for Broadway cares.....I really liked Van as Johnny. It was fun. Too many screaming groupies though.
Yes, they always do Good Riddance after the curtain call.
I saw Van as Tunny and Aspen in Alysha's track last week and both were fantastic.
do some of you guys see every show? or at least more than twice a week?
I am really looking forward to revisiting the show tonight. I loved it the first time from the lottery seats. Got comps tonight in the front row of the mezz. Very excited to see it from a different perspective...and to see the lovely Stark Sands :)
matty159, I saw it from Front Row Mezz last Saturday night. They are INCREDIBLE seats!
Declan Bennett went on as Will tonight. Was anyone there?

I was. Declan was brilliant. He nailed it. Different than Esper, of course, not quite as emotional, but I could not take my eyes off of him. I don't remember him being overly emotional in RENT either, but he was fantastic.
Saw the show on Thursday night. It was my second time...and I enjoyed it much more this time around.
I might get shot for this, but I really preferred Van's performance to John's. It felt much more natural. While I didn't hate John's performance, I felt at times that he was trying to hard. I didn't get that at all from Van. Other than that, the energy is still there and the show is just as wonderful as I had remembered...and as was said, Declan was great too!
The view from the front row of the mezz was amazing! What was sad, however, was the view of the empty theater. I can honestly say that I have never been at such a sparsely populated performance on Broadway ever. A true shame as it really is a great show.

Matty, nobody is going to shoot you. I said basically the same thing. Van is giving an honest performance, where John plays the part far too whiny and entitled.
"Honest" is actually the perfect word to describe Van's performance. Well said!
I wasn't there but today's mat (per Aspen's twitter) was:
Van as Johnny
Declan as Will
Corin as Whatsername
Aspen as Alyshya
and
Omar as Declan

Saw the show tonight - the matinee's understudy list was the same as ours. Having seen the show with all the originals in it, I can honestly say I enjoyed the understudies far more than their regular counterparts.
I saw the show tonight as well and thought Van Hughes was great...he's got an excellent voice and he's much more honest and "real" and emotional than John. I liked John in the show and I think he has great energy, but his performance seemed like Moritz 2.0 to me. Declan Bennett and Corbin Reid were great as well.
I've heard tons of great things about Corbin's Whatsername and Van's every part he stands by for. I actually really enjoyed John Gallager Jr, but it did seem to miss the honesty that you guys are saying Van is delivering. Great to here all of these reviews!
I rather felt the same way about Gallagher's performnace in SA, too. I liked him, but I found Blake Bashoff's choices more truthful.
BUT in his defence: The two characters are pretty similar. Additionally, Michael Meyer (sp?) developed this show FOR Gallagher. (Or at least already knowing that he was the one that would play the role.)
