ANOTHER "FINDING NEVERLAND" TONY AWARDS SURPRISE

It was announced today the not Tony-nominated musical, "Finding Neverland" will snag a performance space at the awards show this year. Who did Harvey Weinstein sleep to make this happen? It was weird enough to have the performance last year. Has there ever been another case where a show no-Tony cred has gotten his much exposure on the awards show before. I always that it was an honor to be nominated and to be able to perform on the show. This just seems to turn the whole show into a sham...

I think that was announced weeks ago...not today, but also It should have been you in performing. I'm glad they'll have a chance to perform at the Tony Awards...since the Tony Award voters leave a lot to be desired.

Boy — news sure travels slow to Chicago!

The Tony telecast is a giant, advertiser-fueled commercial for Broadway. Always has been. All shows performing on the broadcast pay for the advertising privilege. Harvey Weinstein has deep pockets. No mystery. No sham.

Maybe you missed the Royal Caribbean Cruise onboard performance of "Hairspray" a few Tony broadcasts back.

'It was announced today (May 25') ...

Are you getting your news by Pony Express? This was announced last Wednesday (May 20), and the non-Tony-nominated 'It Shoulda Been You' also is performing. And so is 'Gigi,' a non-Tony-nominated for Best Musical Revival (it has a solo nod for Clark).

Is it really news that non-Tony-nominated shows (for Best Musical) are getting to perform on the Tonys? It's been happening for a number of years now. Last year, the Tony telecast included numbers from 'Bullets Over Broadway,' 'If/Then' and 'Rocky.'

For the record, 'Finding Neverland' is the second-highest-grossing show among all the new Broadway musicals, so it's drawing a family audience and warrants some attention. And for its fans, the real 'sham' is that it WASN'T Tony-nominated at all.

Is it really news that non-Tony-nominated shows (for Best Musical) are getting to perform on the Tonys? It's been happening for a number of years now. Last year, the Tony telecast included numbers from 'Bullets Over Broadway,' 'If/Then' and 'Rocky.'

But that's a little different because all three of those shows had SOME Tony nominations. Neverland and Shoulda have ZERO.

Have to admit that I really liked it. One of the few on these boards who did, it appears though.

I've seen a lot of shows on Broadway (not that that means anything), and I certainly didn't walk out of the theater feeling anything negative about it.

Best I saw this season? No. But not a bad show either. It had a couple of 'wow' moments for me, and I never found myself bored with it. So that's usually a good sign for me.

But to each his own. Some things resonate; some things don't.

The Tony performance will give people who know what a good theater song is a couple of solid laughs. Maybe they'll throw in the CHEERS joke or the fairy joke in so people with taste can laugh even louder.

I've been saving this for you guys: So apparently Bill O'Reilly decided to give a shout out to FINDING NEVERLAND on his show, likely because fellow Republican Kelsey Grammer is starring in the show. So now that it gets the thumbs up from O'Reilly, people have even LESS of a reason to see it! (I don't want to bring up politics or anything, but how can any gay chorus boy share the stage with a man who endorsed Michele Bachmann in 2012? I know, I know...a paycheck. But still...)

Just for the record..whether or not you are a Tony nominee, you still have to shell out big bucks to be part of the telecast. You don't get to perform because of the "honor"..you have to pay regardless.

This may be a silly question, but do shows that aren't nominated for Best Musical (or any other award) have to pay more than the Best Musical nominees to perform?

Nominated or not, it costs around $250,000 for a show to perform on the Tony Awards.

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Did anyone REALLY think for a moment that television star Kelsey Grammer and television star Matthew Morrison were somehow NOT going to perform on the telecast?

I look forward to this new annual tradition, the FINDING NEVERLAND Tony performance! Whether the show is running or not!

(Though P.S. it makes total sense for them to perform this year)

This may seem like a stupid question but then again these boards are known for that do the performers on the Tony Awards get paid extra for performing or is it part of their contract with the show?
