i went to the open call yesterday and it was EMPTY for an open call! The guys audition started at 10am and they were done by 11:45.. the girls started at 2 and there were maybe about 200 girls tops..it went rather fast and 3 girls ahead ALL sang DEFYING GRAVITY...

thats kind of sad... My friends and I would have made the trip to audition if we knew... just for the experience, I doubt we would have made it, but that's ok lol
Empty?!!! Well with any luck maybe Monday will be empty to:) fyi I will not be singing Defying Gravity. lol Updated On: 8/22/04 at 12:12 PM
I was gonna go to the chorus call...wow, only 200 girls? Not bad...maybe I'll go sometime this week. And I also will NOT be singing "Defying Gravity"...hahaha. Who in their right mind would sing that for a BEACH BOYS type of musical? It's not even close to being similar styles, haha.
I just read the call for dancers who sing for Sept. They said to "wear beach type clothes". I can only imagine what some people are going to show up in. LOLOL
HAHA, I read that too. There was a non-Equity call on Saturday and I think that one also requested that they show up in beach party attire since the second act takes place in California, and to wear bathing suits, no make up, etc, but no surfboards. That'll be interesting.
People werent too overboard yesterday...just bikini tops and shorts or skirts with flowers in the hair...but seriously, I was shocked how few people showed up for an OPEN call..so yeah..DEFYING GRAVITY was the song for the day... and also AIDA... and they said POP songs..but, one of the guys who auditioned told me he sang "corner of the sky" from pippin and was asked to stay and that the guy after him sang "this is the moment"..so I was like ok I wont sing REFLECTION then.. I decided to do my best 16 bars of a song from a musical (suddenly seymour)... I had fun thats all I can say but, the guy did tell me that the guys they kept had to learn a tap number. My daughter auditioned on 9/11, and had a great time. She said
if was so fun and she is waiting.... With rehearsals set to start in a few weeks you would think that cast announcements
would be soon.

Sunset, Did your daughter say if any of the leads were there on Saturday?
Defying Gravity is the DUMBEST choice for an audition song. Unless you've gotten a call specifically for Elphaba, it's only going to hurt you.
That song is what they call a "Signature Song." Inevitably, it is compared to the original cast recording, and no matter what you think, you won't stack up. Not because you're not good, just because.
Until a show has been running for a while and they've had many people come in and lpay the part, steer clear of something that is so strongly tied to a performer, who by the way, is STILL in the show.

My daughter did not think any of the leads were at the audition. The guy who taught the dance combinations looked
familiar to her, as she thought she had taken a master class,
or convention class from him in the past, but not sure.

None of the leads would go to the ensemble call. They had a separate call and call back.

that makes sense they have diff. casting calls for diff. roles!
when in the heck will we know! oh well..
u all in NY have way more selection to go to the theater then we do out west! but i think it is more expensive in Ny though not sure!

I heard that the cast won't be announced until the middle of October.

That's probably true. Rehearsals start in mid to late October.

Just seems odd that they are already selling group tickets BEFORE the cast is announced. I wouldn't buy tickets to a show without knowing who was in the cast.

True, but producers want the $$$ and hope that the advance buzz will generate sales.
