"His family was in town recently... maybe he missed a show or two to spend some time with them. And no, I'm not a stalker... the fans were talking about it when I was at the show last week; how they knew, I don't know."
She's NOT a stalker!
Just look at her av!"
theatrediva, I don't know what you're trying to imply, but if every person who has a performer as their "av" is a stalker, well, we have a lot of them on this site then. And, I'm a he... thank you very much.

I saw Next to Normal last weekend for the first time, and I've honestly never been more moved by a show in my life. I always go to the stagedoor when I see shows, and I have to say that the people there when I saw it were well-behaved. I was really looking forward to meeting Aaron and was disappointed that he didn't come out, but I did get to meet Adam, Bobby, and Jenn, so I was pleased with that. However, about 10 minutes after everyone dispersed, my friends and I were still in the alley (one of my friends wanted to buy a poster from that little store next door, and we had to discuss what we wanted to do for dinner before our train) when Aaron walked through the alley right past us. We didn't want to disturb him so we didn't say anything but he glanced over, pretended he didn't see us, and bolted. Just because we were a group of college-age girls, he had to assume the worst.
Ugh, I hate the fangirls spoiling it for the normal people.
Bolting because he didn't want the attention of a group of college-age girls is PROOF he is gay, to me.
YAY.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
HAHAH. Well, we're 18... we could have passed as 16-year-old crazy fangirls to him. I think it was that combined with the fact that we were still in the alley sometime after the show ended.
If he's not gay, maybe the fangirls will turn him gay!!!! Yay!

haha... nahhh... anyway I did meet him at stagedoor once months ago and he seemed kind of shy. This girl was like, "OMG I'm like in love with you; you're so hot" and he just said "Thanks" so unfazed without even looking at her!

That's not being shy, lol. That's just all he wants to respond to an annoying fangirl. He's a really nice, friendly person. My family and I got a chance to have an actual conversation with him and he told us about where he grew up, his family, and about where we were all from too. And also told us about about his current and future projects. Very nice guy.
Granted, it makes sense that he would shut down if someone starts foaming at the mouth about him being hot, but legally, weren't you an invited guest backstage at the show? That would separate you from the unwashed masses at the door. You act as though he would share all of that with someone at the door. He may, but I think the fact that you were a back stage guest made him feel somewhat safer. You failed to mention that and I think that makes a huge difference.

Are people like missing their common sense? I don't care if your their #1 fan, but who would have a conversation when someone tells them that? It's just awkward! You don't go around telling people you don't know they're hot, AND you're in love with them. I wish I could see all these fans make fools of themselves.. No wait, I take that back, it would be much to emabrrasing to watch.
If only people acted more civilized. Updated On: 10/20/09 at 12:06 AM
Hot girl, flash your breasts at Aaron and see how he reacts.
Hot Guy, flash your luggage.
Someone record it.

That's true, Bettyboy, and you're right that he probably wouldn't engage in a conversation like that at the stage door. I just wanted to point out that he likes talking with fans and would respond to more normal comments rather than fangirl commets like "OMG YOU'RE SO HOTT!!" :-P
I don't even know how people can bring themselves to say that to his face. I would be so embarrassed. I've met a LOT of Broadway performers who I find hot, but I never say more than "I loved the show," "I thought you performed really well," etc.
And it's not precedented as far as I know, but I would be HAPPY to concede if someone could point me in the direction of an example that was relevant and an accurate comparison to this one as that has yet to be done...
Aaron had it written into his N2N contract that he be given leave to go to Seattle for the Catch Me If You Can tryout.
For more direct comparisons, name any performer who was in a show and filmed a TV guest appearance at the same time. Most likely, they missed shows to do it. Just because people don't obsessively follow the attendance record of every actor on Broadway doesn't mean this doesn't happen all the time and you just don't know about it.

Wanting life but never
knowing how
I had a friend who saw the first preview of CMIYC and said there was a group of odd fangirls at the stagedoor who just gawked and giggled at him as he walked by. They wouldn't even talk to him, except as he left one shouted "AARON!" They must have scarred him off because he didn't come out when I saw the show the next night. I stagedoored all 3 times that I saw the show and he only came out on closing night. He was very gracious and posed for pictures and autographs with fans and only made a speedy getaway when this guy wearing a "Valium is my favorite color" shirt started following him out of the alley asking weird questions.
Saw the show for the 1st time tonight (10/27) and Aaron did not come out after the show. I thought because the crowd was small and it was raining, then there was a chance he might. But nope, no show.
Anyhoo, just want to thank the people who posted that he rarely comes out now. Thanks for the tip.
FYI: someone that works @ the show said Aaron was out Monday (10/26) because he was filming Gossip Girls. So it seems like it's a hit or miss if you want to see Aaron perform for the time being.
