Who are some actors or artists you wish did more theater? I would say Barbra Streisand for me, she did her famous role of Fanny Brice in Funny Girl but never really did much else in the theater.
Let's get Audra McDonald back to Broadway and out of LA!
Though I do love watching her on Private Practice every week.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
I believe Toni Collette has stated that she never wants to do another show after the way Mandy Patinkin treated her and the entire cast during the run of The Wild Party.
Fiona Apple. PLEASE do something with her AMAZING voice. Drew Barrymore. I could see her in a Mamet, Ruhl or Wilder play. Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, she's been on B'way before but she needs to come back!
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
I'll be the 4th person to say Neil Patrick Harris, he's fantastic. I'd also love to see Allison Janney, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Susan Egan doing more theater.
LINDA LAVIN! LINDA LAVIN! LINDA LAVIN! LINDA LAVIN! LINDA LAVIN! LINDA LAVIN! LINDA LAVIN! LINDA LAVIN! LINDA LAVIN!
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."
-John Guare, Landscape of the Body
Add me to the list of Neil Patrick Harris fans, he just joined Twitter last week and I immediately had to send him a "tweet" saying PLEASE come back to Broadway and do another musical! He didn't answer (I didn't expect him to) but I hope he knows how many people would love to see him do live theatre here.
