"Pascal is a performer who clearly allows opinion to interfere with his work"
Damn! Just when I swore I wasn't posting in this thread again. Just how is his opinion interfering with his work?
And yes, I'm pretty sure that Mimi and Jane realize that Pascal is a performer, if only because there are FOURTEEN PAGES about it.
"Jane, unless your kids had their dances broadcast to thousands of people, went on tours, and had sites dedicated to them...this is completely different."
Um, I do not have kids. You're mistaking me for someone else. Please go back and read.
And no, I had no idea that Adam Pascal was a performer. I know nothing about the business. Sheesh!
Well then, I genuinely apologize. I could have sworn you were the one who mentioned what your kids learned in dance classes and compared it to this. Sorry for the mistake!
that's ok, but I think it was Yankee fan 7. It's easy to find.

Adam Pascal only said in public what Nathan Lane said to me years ago in an e-mail. I think it's only right for performers to voice their opinions the way we do here.
^
Like others, I have no problem with him expressing his opinion; I have problems with his comments after the initial post.

"I enjoy Pascal's work, but I really hope that there is something more to this, something that we don't see or know that prompted his FB rant and subsequent replies. Because if this is just normal behavior for him, with all the snarky things posted about him online, I'm amazed that his head hasn't exploded."he
mimi, since '96 he's dealt with a lot re: the fans as you probably know. No need to rehash everything, but during the Rent days people weren't exactly respectful of his time, space, anything. Soooo many stories of ridiculous fan behavior towards him. After 17 years of message boards, entitled fans, and everything he sang about in "Book of Endings"? :-/ He's just saying what others may think and not say. Good for him. If he wants to bite someone's head off on his own Facebook page - why shouldn't he if that's how he feels? I've been pretty entertained by his posts myself. Kuddos. If anyone feels it to be immature or unclassy, don't read his page. He didn't put it on BWW, he's on his own page. People have "lost respect for him as a performer" because he called someone out? Ok. So don't pay attention to him or see his shows. However, I much prefer a raw, honest guy like him to a phony-to-the-fans-kiss-ass performer who may be saying those things behind your backs. After 17 years, I get him. Accept him. Respect him. And totally understand where he's coming from.
"Adam Pascal only said in public what Nathan Lane said to me years ago in an e-mail."
Yes, he's told me about that. Shame on you.
Jane2- I disagree with you and don't think people expect total perfection 100% of the time they attend a show although wouldn't it be nice - lol. Winston made a comment about Mr. Pascal and as I have said in other posts, he was critical of other performers in the show also the night he saw Chicago. For the life of me, I can not understand the reaction to one post even if it is on a popular theater website. I understand nobody enjoys criticism but I am sure Mr. Pascal has had some criticism regarding his performance in the news media before this current situation. I also stated before that what would Mr. Pascal do if he would have gotten the "bullying" Katherine McPhee received here every week SMASH aired for 2 seasons. I did not see Ms. McPhee get upset and blast everyone for on this board for their negativity. Ms. McPhee is a human being with feelings also.
Finally, yes performers make mistakes. Yes, I understand that nobody likes to hear about their mistakes in public. That being said, Mr. Pascal gets paid very well in the career he chose and needs to understand that sometimes not everyone will think his performance was wonderful. If Winston had been nasty, vulgar and personal I would have had more empathy for Mr. Pascal but that was not the case IMO.

A Dollypop name drop post! Everyone take a shot!!
WishingOnlyWounds - I said in my post it was totally different, see below. The reason I mentioned it was I was trying to show that even at a early age young performers are taught how to "cover up" when something goes wrong with a performance. In other words, the more experience you have you would think that this becomes easier to do when you have one of those moments. I have no idea about acting classes so at the end of the statement I kind of wondered if this type of thing is addressed when you are a acting student.
"It is totally different but I will mention it just for the heck of it. When my daughters were teenagers, they were dancing in a dance competition. Their group was doing the dance and all of a sudden the recorded music stopped. All of the dancers continued to dance until the very end without music and got wild applause when it ended. They were taught from their teachers that no matter what happens to continue to dance until the end. I have no experience with acting but I would think in acting schools they would discuss what to do when your mind goes blank on a line or lines and how to recover quickly"
What a historic thread on BWW. I love what we have learned about him from his rant. He seems to be unhinged, lack self-control and cannot take criticism. He is a bully hiding under the excuse that someone bullied him when all they did was criticise his performance. And last, and although it might not bother many of you, he is terrible at writing. His grammar is awful, so not only does he come across as a 'douchebag' and a '****head', but as an idiot.
Good luck with your performance tonight in Chicago Pascal. Break a leg!
AAAAAAAAGH

No one is stopping you from walking away. Let it go, Janey!!!!
I'm trying to!!! I know, just do it!
Wait, no, you guys can't leave now-- we've got another five pages to fill if we want to match Jordan's 20-page thread on Hunter Foster/Chris Sieber et al. :)

I already left!
This thread is a Master Class in the Rorschach Test. As in real life, people see what they see (or what they want to see). But, even by BWW standards (well, if we had standards), so many of the vitriolic and hyperbolic responses on this thread, on all sides, are just plain silly and histrionic. But that's just what I see....

This thread is the hotness!!
24,000 plus hits in just 24 hours..
is that a record?
Or was the Orfeh one just as hot?
jane,
The intent in terms of me saying "I'm not going to lie, I'm kind of enjoying the attention." was done with a more sarcastic tone in mind. Clearly how I intended it to come across and how it did come across ended up being two totally different things. Hope this clears it up for you. To be perfectly honest here, I really could care less either way. If this thread was full of people tearing me to shreds, I'd simply wait until things died down before posting again, or at least think carefully on what it is I post. Since that isn't the case, I'm more inclined to partake in the conversation.
Winston, check your pms.

That's a bit much. You are just going down to his level by saying that...
This was pages ago, but Winston, I am not attacking you or your original post. My comments about people being unnecessarily mean spirited was aimed at later posters who are (in my opinion) pretty much attacking Adam Pascal for being human and being sad, hurt and upset that he was being "critiqued" so harshly on here.
Certainly, you are entitled to post your opinion and impressions of the show. That, to me, is not even the issue. It's the ugly turn this whole thing took after your post.
I feel for you, too as you simply posted a review after seeing a show and it's blown up into all of this. That must be rather surreal, too.
Anyway, I just hope this dies down soon.
